What typical "wedding aspects" did you skip to save money?

Stephanie, on July 6, 2017 at 8:14 AM Posted in Planning 0 71

Just curious what everyone's top priorities were when planning their weddings. I know I personally skipped the engagement session photos, because my dad had a nice camera and he takes nice pictures. I chose not to pay someone for this service.

What did you guys "skip" that most brides/grooms do before/on the big day?

I'm not getting programs and did not have an engagement shoot either. I decided having a good photographer and photo booth the day of was better. Smiley smile

Skipped transportation for wedding party by having our wedding party portraits done within a 5 min walk from venue and hotel.

    Skipped favours

Skipped wedding cake - we bought our own cakes that we loved to share

Skipping having a post-wedding brunch. Between paying for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding, we don't want to host anything else

Programs, favors, printed menus, really a lot of stuff in the invitation suite. I put all of that on the wedding website were I think people will actually look at/not lose it. I also didn't do any fancy "will you be my bridesmaid" proposals, and set a hard limit for gifts for the wedding party.

Top priorities: GOOD food, endless booze and indoor venue

Low Priorities: Flowers. Literally give 0 fucks about flowers so we're doing some faux ones which generally people on here are against. My grandma offered to make the bouquets so I told her whatever she wants and is comfortable with. So whatever we get is just fine with me.

We skipped extra things like favors, welcome bags, calligraphy, bridal party proposals, etc. Otherwise, we tried to be smart and save where we could, such as using Vistaprint for our STDs and invitations with their 50% off sales.

Skipped engagement photos entirely. No fancy invitations. Very minimal décor (really just centerpieces and a handful of pew bows). Wearing shoes I already own.

I am having a photobooth for mine too! I also didn't even consider doing favors, or programs, because most of that stuff gets thrown out anyway, also I booked it all at one place so we don't need a limo or to get people anywhere!

Skipping Programs, favors, ceremony decor, diy table decor for reception, welcome bags. Trying to DIY when possible or use coupons for certain things (like invitations, STDs, etc)

We didn't have anything personalised printed (like labels for the water bottles, and wine bottles, etc).

Didn't do any "wedding party props" for getting-ready photo's.

All our decor was hired, and we used cost-effective flowers.

I adopted a mentality that weddings don't have to be a particular way, the most important parts are the ceremony and treating my guests like VIPs. For example, no guestbook, a simple, but high quality cake, no favors but amazing food and booze instead, and no programs, and no superfluous decor. Ultimately we are saving even more money now because we drastically cut our guest list and switched our plans. Now we are hosting an intimate destination wedding instead. Just prioritize and keep your guests in mind as you prioritize as well. There is no miracle savings method, aside from keeping your guest list down to a minimum that you guys are comfortable with. Fewer guests doesn't just mean lower food and alcohol costs, but your stationary costs, floral costs, linen costs, etc. all go down.

We are skipping programs...and will have one framed menu per table...so we will only need 11 instead of 90. We are probably going to skip favors...not 100% yet. I also went basic on flowers...all real flowers for our bouquets and the groomsmen...but no real flowers in the reception space..using less expensive decor.

We are getting married on a farm and leaving the ceremony space pretty natural...the tree we plan to get married in front of is a massive oak and we are not planning to do any isle decorations...our ceremony is only going to be 20 min.

We also went less expensive with invitations...for 55 save the dates and wedding invites we only spend about $90!

We are skipping programs, menus, a rehearsal dinner and real flowers. The flowers are what saved me a lot of money!
