I'm planning on playing songs that I like but wouldn't want to dance to. I hope that makes sense.

Just general background music. Slow stuff. Jazz, Motown, Country, Soft Rock. Dinner music can really be anything.

For cocktail hour, we're going VSQ/The Piano Guys with songs people are likely to recognize. For dinner, we're going with jazz.

For cocktail hour we had acoustic guitarists and for dinner and later we had a dj. We told them to play what they felt was right since they have more experience in wedding music than we do.

We will have slow songs we like playing in the background that have a love meaning to them...

for example: Ed Sheeran - thinking out loud, Meagan Trainor and John Legend - Like I'm gonna lose you, Christina Perri - A thousand years, Jason Mraz - I won't give up, Enrique Iglesias and Whitney Houston - Can I have this kiss forever, Sam Smith - lay me down, Marc Anthony - my baby you, Enrique Iglesis- Hero, Etta James - At last, Train - marry me

We're not having any dancing, so no DJ required, so we made a 4-hour Spotify playlist of love songs. It'll play during dinner, during post-dinner mingling/chatting, during cake, and it'll probably still be playing as people leave.

It's a mix of styles; the only real theme is love. We have Queen, Van Morrison, Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, Weezer, The Judds, Savage Garden, The Partridge Family....

I Just requested more low-key music basically what Willie H. said, with a few song requests thrown in. A lot of our favourite music includes Leonard Cohen. Buena vista Social Club, Jonny Cash, John Denver... stuff you wouldnt really want to hear during dancing and partying time. We requested our favourite songs to be played over dinner Smiley smile

I was told to avoid music with vocals, as it may cause your dinner guests' conversation to compete with the music. I feel like there is some gray area there. Definitely hold off on music that may encourage dancing until you're ready for people to dance!

I don't know who said that, but if the music is below speaking level it will be fine.
