What type of adhesive for glass and ribbon?? Help please.

LaurenVictoria, on August 29, 2013 at 6:07 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 25

I need advice on types and preferably specific brands of glue/adhesive to attach diamond mesh ribbon to glass vases. I got extra strength adhesive dots and put a line of them along the edges of the ribbon but it didn't want to stay on the glass, the ribbon was just too heavy. Do I just need to use more of the dots? Should I get a liquid adhesive? Hot glue? I do not want these falling apart while sitting on my tables.

Here's a link to the brand of glue dots I got. I saw somewhere that the glue dashes were recommended for the mesh ribbon instead of the dots. Thoughts? http://www.gluedots.com/glue.html

Double sided gorilla tape. Or double sided tape and hot glue.

Girl I'm glad you asked bc that's part of my tasks this weekend!!!

That's what I'm gonna try. Another thing I've heard, is find clear roll-on vinyl glue(for flooring). Now, my cousin says that's determinate on vase and rhinestone ribbon color. I'm doing black spray painted pots and silver mesh, so mine "SHOULD" be ok. I'm gonna test it and if not, use the rest to fix our vinyl where fh ripped it installing new fridge ;-) lol!!!!

@Cheetah2B thanks! do you think the gorilla tape will be visible at all through the mesh? I'm not familiar with what the tape looks like.

Do you have ribbon UNDER the bling, or just the bling? I LOVE E6000...but you would have to hold it for awhile. Hot glue would also work well...I just caution the the back side wouldn't look "pretty"...

@Buffee, when I tried it, I was only using the bling. I am actually contemplating having a layer of ribbon underneath the bling, but haven't decided which way I'm doing it yet.

I think I've heard gorillia glue for this sort of thing.

call a craft store and/or home depot.

I would use rubber cement. You can get it from most craft stores in the glue isle. I bought some at Michael's. It's a mostly clear glue that you just brush on. It holds everything together.

I would use hot glue that way you don't have to hold it for long.

Glad I saw this thread. I plan on adding diamond mesh around the top of a glass candle holder.

Thoughts --- would either of these work? do you think it would look ok? i don't want it to look too terrible on the back.

I never used diamond ribbon, however I have used double face Scotch tape on tons of stuff before. Perhaps give it a shot?

I have one extra vase laying around. I have a feeling I'm going to be purchasing several adhesives and trying each one on the extra vase..

My vases are borrowed and I need to return them to my friend afterwards. Is there any adhesive that would work well but could then be removed from the glass?

I do decor for events and this has been a problem . I finally found a solution. I purchase Scotch brand restock able straps. They come in 1in x 3 in and can be cutting match the width of the ribbon. The ribbon stays nice and flat, no curling corners and comes off for the next event.
