What to wear?

Jami, on July 28, 2020 at 6:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 7
I’m sure this isn’t an uncommon thing because of COVID but we chose to postpone the ceremony/reception from our original 11/14 date to 04/30 (here’s hoping that we don’t have to delay again bc at that point I will just cut my loses and cancel!) and still get married on 11/14 but just at the courthouse bc neither of us wants to wait that long to get officially married.
I have my dress purchased and at first I thought it didn’t “fit” a courthouse wedding so I didn’t want to wear it. (Its an A-line gown that has a semi decent train. It’s not huge by any means but it’s more on the princess side of dresses.) But the other part of me is like...I don’t want to spend MORE money on a new dress and what if we did cancel? The FH would never see it. I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to get over the idea that the dress has to fit the venue. Maybe it’s a sort of morning too that the wedding isn’t going to be what I originally planned, even though I’ve hated planning it and never thought I’d think this way about my wedding. I’d appreciate your opinions and words of advice, thanks!

If you were in Vegas would you wear the dress?
Wear what you want, it’s YOUR day! Why should a courthouse wedding be any different than a Vegas chapel

We are postponing our wedding in December for next December and are having a small intimate ceremony this year instead. We are getting married in a loft we found on Airbnb. My dress is elegant and a little dramatic and I was struggling to decide if I should wear it this year or not. Then I said screw it, if you love it wear it. There’s no real “rules” anymore to weddings this year plus you get to wear it twice ☺️

I'm wearing mine this year! I plan to also wear it next year, but there's no way to know for sure if our 2021 plans will actually happen. I'd hate to waste the dress. Try to think of the venue as a state of mind instead of a physical place. If you've been picturing yourself getting married in that dress, that's the dress you should wear when you get married, regardless of which building you're in when the marriage license is signed.

I would wear the dress! At first I thought for our elopement I would wear a simpler dress but that also meant spending more $, which I didn’t want to do. I love my dress and have it already to where it fits almost perfectly! So I am just going to get it altered and wear it.

You should wear your dress if you want to!! It's your wedding day, you can rock that dress anywhere you want! ❤️

Here are two recent weddings that might inspire you: We did it! We got married! and We did it!!! Mr & Mrs Williams.

I had done the same thing and even got an inexpensive high low (which I still love), but in the end I'll wear my formal dress to our mini. If the big June 2021 doesn't happen then we aren't rescheduling again. So, it's the chance to wear the dress I always wanted; I'm not missing that chance. I do have an A line for the June wedding so the family can see the dress that they are expecting - and f there are any issues in shortening my minimony dress I have it to fall back on... I just love the minimony dress so much that I won't give it up without a fight. lol! I hope that some part of this makes sense. Go with the dress you want to have pictures of forever - most family will want photos of you from the day you got married. Party pictures would be a bonus!

Rock the dress you already have. Who cares if it's formal? Brides dress up for courthouse weddings everyday and no one thinks twice about it. There isn't any other occasion to wear the dress so take as much advantage of it as you can.
