Do you wear a peticoat or a hoop skirt? Are they the same? I have been hearing different from different ppl.

It depends on the dress. A hoop skirt actually has a plastic or metal hoop under it. (Think southern belle.) A petticoat or slip has layers of crinoline that give the dress some "poof" and prevent it from just hanging by your legs. It depends on the look that you're going for, but hoop skirts aren't the easiest thing to maneuver in! I'm wearing a slip under mine that has several layers of crinoline. It will be much easier to get around in.

Whichever you want, both will have different effects, a petticoat adds more pouf to the A-line shape, flaring it out at the sides, whereas a hoop skirt will make the skirt overall more rounded. Wherever you got your dress should advise you on undergarments....personally I like petticoats but up to you.

How heavy is the skirt of your dress? is it satin/tulle/etc? If the material is heavy, it might weigh down the petticoat and you wont get as much fullness. if you want the dress to be full with a heavy skirt, you might need to do a hoop skirt instead. if its a pretty light fabric or you dont need it SUPER poofy then go with a petticoat

also, petticoats are much easier to sit down/move around in than a hoop skirt.

Yes, petticoat! I had one with mine, and my dress was pretty full and heavy.

BTW, I found my petticoat at the thrift store for under $20.. I would look for a used one before a new one from a bridal shop. Or Recycled Brides.com maybe? Some bridal shops over charge for accessories and alterations.
