What to wear to a wedding reception?

Amanda, on July 6, 2019 at 10:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I am going to a wedding in September and I have no idea what to wear! My husband is the best man and they are labeling it a black tie formal (although the groomsmen are wearing navy blue tuxes..) and it is fall themed. The ceremony is at 2 in a church but the reception isnt until 6 so I have no idea what I should wear. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Just wear a pretty, formal dress. Maybe in a gold or bronze to dance along with the season.

Agree with above. A nice floor length dress is appropriate here. Doesnt have to be a gown, but if they are going for a more formal look, then floor length is the way to go.

Floor length dress would probably be best. If you don't do dresses, then maybe a nice pant suit? Ideally a dress though.

Jewel tones are beautiful for September....emerald green, sapphire blue, amethyst purple, ruby red, etc

At a black tie fall wedding, men shouldwear tuxedos and women should wearformal gowns. While you can get away with wearing a dressy cocktail dress, it's better to wear a floor length gown or an evening suit. Black is acceptable, but a jewel tone will feel more festive.

Should I wear that blue dress to the reception and get another dress for the ceremony? I have 3 hrs between them so switching is definitely an option

Black Tie Formal would mean a long dress (in my opinion) for you!

I think a very dressy knee-length dress would also be appropriate. It's not truly black tie if the groomsmen are wearing navy. Tuxes are black.

You should be ok with any long dress, that should keep you in line with the black tie theme. We have some guides that can help you find the right outfit -
