What to get a brother for wedding?

Crazyrain40, on July 27, 2010 at 2:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Okay, my baby brother is getting married this weekend and I still haven't gotten them a gift. I don't want to just choose off of the registry because I'd like it a little more personal than that. Both he and his fiance are both in their young twenties and she loves vintage and he loves whatever she loves. Smiley smile I could totally do a DIY gift, but I can't think of anything that's not cheap or too cheesy..... Help!! Any ideas?

You could make them a vintage looking scrapbook with lots of places for their wedding photos?

You could do a gift basket. One of the best gifts I ever recieved was a picnic basket stocked with picnic goodies. A blanket, a bottle of wine, disposable plates/silverware/cups, trash bags, etc. It came with a note that said "Food and fun not included. Please provide your own." But they did put a cookbook of picnic friendly foods in there. It was so cute and 10 years later, I still have that picnic basket and the blanket- but not the husband...

SWR: have you heard of "The Seven-Year Itch"? Supposedly after 7 years of marriage, a spouse might be inclined to stray. So for our 7th anniversary, I made a gift basket for hubby. It included the Marilyn Monroe movie "The Seven-Year Itch," as well as cures for itching from head to toes (dandruff shampoo, athletes foot spray, and stuff in between LOL). Just to make sure DH didn't get the itch!

I know it's not very "personal" but I would appreciate cash. For my FBIL's wedding we are giving them cash...and next year at ours they are giving us cash.

I like the picnic basket idea though. Very cute. I've given gifts like this in the past: baking dish, oven mitts, cake mix, and a whisk all held together with a ribbon... things like that go together well and are always useful and more personal than just another small appliance. Smiley smile

Okay, I had to laugh at myself. I thought your thread was titled, "I want to get a brother for my wedding"! LOL!!!!

I like the picnic basket idea, if they like to picnic.

How about a gift card to a vintage shop????

The scrapbook idea is great too. I am making one for my daughter and new son-in-law with photos of all of the planning, holiday events in the past year and the wedding photos. I'm giving it to them as a Christmas gift...so shhhhhh! LOL!

Turns out they could really use furniture, so I'm going to scour furniture outlets with my sister and we'll combine our gifts! Thanks for all the great advice! Smiley smile
