what to feed the kids?

Kathleen, on June 10, 2011 at 3:08 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

So my reception venue offers chicken tenders and fries for kids for $10.00 or 1/2 priced buffet (which is originally $19.95, so about $10.00) for kids. Which should I do? I'm going to have a fair amount of kids at the reception and I don't know if they'd like kid food or "regular" food better.

I guess it depends on the kids and what the food choices are. My FH's nephew will eat lots of stuff I won't even eat, so you never know.

But honestly, if this was my situation I'd definitely get something just for the kids, but make sure the adults know what foods are for kids only. Once I went to a wedding and the groomsmen ate an entire pan of 300 chicken nuggets and the Groom's dad had to miss some of the reception to drive to McDonalds.

The kids (there will be a lot at ours too) will be eating what we are eating. Keeping it simple

I am doing a children's buffet, My venue offers chicken tenders, mac n cheese, pizza, and fruit. Kids will eat much better if you offer things they like otherwise alot of food will be wasted and the kids may get hungry later in the evening.

I wouldn't do seperate kid's food. My kids eat whatever is put in front of them. I make them- and they rarely complain. If you are doing food they can pronounce and isn't crazy (sushi, curry chicken mush, anything with a visible face...), you shouldn't have any problems.

Just a side note- chicken tenders and fries means sauces- ketchup! And the last thing you want is a ton of kids running around with ketchupy hands, especially hugging the bride!

I think kids food is a good idea. Being that I've always been a picky eater, even (and especially) as a kid, the familiar food would have been much appreciated. I think having the kid buffet idea is a good one. You could decorate it and make it obvious that it's for the kids only. Lol to the McDonalds run X-D

Honestly? I asked my young niece what did she think the kids would want to eat and she said "Well I want to be like the big people and eat fancy stuff!"

I agree with Meghan, as long as it isn't something really unique that you are serving, the kids will eat it!

The last wedding I went to with kids they ate the grownup food from the buffet - the adults made it sort of a privilege for the kids. "You're such a big girl now that I think you should have shrimp cocktail," and the kids actually got into it.

There won't be anything super fancy, not even seafood, lol. I just don't want picker kids to starve because they don't like the "gross, adult" food. lol
