What to expect during ring resizing process?

MONICA, on February 14, 2014 at 8:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi, my fiance got my ring from Robbins Bros and got the package where I get free resizing and cleanings and etc. Unfortunately, he forgot that we had discussed how my promise ring was too big and we would need to get a smaller size for the engagement ring and the ring is too big.

My questions:

1. Does anyone have experience getting their ring resized at Robbins Bros? Is it a ring drop off and pick it up a few days later or a few hours things or can I sit and watch/wait?

2. Do I need to make an appointment? If not, would you recommend making one?

3. Have you gotten yours resized? Can you tell? Just curious.

4. Do you tip them afterward?

Thank you!

I didn't get my ring at Robbins Brothers, but I have had it resized twice. Since we got it from blue nile (online store based in Seattle), we had to mail it back :/ it took about two weeks to get the ring back. Yours probably won't take two weeks, but I doubt you'll be able to wait in the store while they do it.

I would suggest calling ahead to let them know you want to have it resized. They may want to measure your finger or have you talk to the person doing it directly, so it's a good idea to call ahead so they can let you know if you need to come at a certain time to drop it off.

And no, you don't need to tip the jeweler.

My ring was purchased from a local shop and they said if it needed to be half to 1 size smaller they can do it in the store, mine was about 2 sizes so it took 2 weeks to send it away and get it resized. They had to completely reconstruct my band because of the stones on the sides.

My ring is from Diamonds Direct. As long as you make an appointment, they size it on that day. will take it in on February 25th and get it back that day. Or I can drop it off on the 24th and pick it up on the 25th

My e-ring is from James Allen, which is an online retailer (no brick-and-mortar stores). I had to get my ring sized down shortly after getting it. All we did is send it back to them, they resized it, and about a month and a half later, we got it back in the correct size. I imagine other places would have a similar process. You tell them it needs to be resized (and from what size to what size), you drop it off, and then pick it up when it's ready.

I know this is an old post, but I took my ring to Robbins Brothers and they resized it in an hour. They are a large chain, and have a jeweler in-house at the stores in my area, so they we're able to do it right away. In terms of price - $100 flat for sizing down, not sure if that changes for sizing up or based on size/location. There's no tipping for this service since these types of employees are paid for time at work by the company, not on commission.
