Just curious if anyone else is doing something "tacky" or "taboo" at their wedding. This is my second wedding - my first husband lost his 3 year battle with brain cancer - and although I wouldn't have changed anything about my first wedding at the time, there are traditions and expectations that I just don't care about this time around. So what terrible, horrible thing are you doing that bucks convention?

(Our worst offense is that we're doing a potluck reception! 😯 )

We have fake flowers! I think they look just as beautiful as real ones, won't die two weeks later, and I can pass it down to a daughter if I have one! My mom did a fake bouquet as well, and we put pieces of hers in mine! It's really special! Smiley smile

We are very nontraditional! I am wearing a black dress, my hair is crazy colors, we are having 2 themes one for ceremony and one for reception, we are having our kids be our bridal party, no bach parties, no rehearsal dinner but going paint balling after the rehearsal, we aren't doing traditional engagement photos or save the dates, I'm sure there's more but I can't think lol

My brother is going to stand up with me as my bridesman. He said he'd even put on a dress if I asked him to, which I'm not. Nobody wants to see that! We are not doing flower girls or ring bearers because we have decided we aren't inviting children to our wedding. We will (hopefully) be doing a cash bar. I'm not a huge fan of flowers (it makes me sad when they die) so we'll be doing fake flowers. I'm not getting my makeup professionally done because I have really sensitive acne-prone skin and I don't want to end up with a rash on my wedding day.

Ours is that our officiant isn’t official! We got married at the courthouse last year so we asked our friend to officiate for us since there are no legal requirements. ❤️😂

We're doing a honeymoon registry (Zola) and will not be changing our last names after the wedding. We're also having our ceremony and reception in different locations, a 30-minute drive apart. And absolutely no garter toss, although I'm still on the fence about tossing a bouquet.

Sounds like SO MUCH FUN! My FH are in an Irish Pirate pub band together, so that sounds like an amazing wedding, lol.

I'm doing fake flowers, too! Did them the first time around and love that I saved money and still have them as mementos.

Haha!! We're sword people, too. Most of our friends are more shocked that we DON'T have a sword fight planned. Yet...

We are definitely kindred wedding spirits! We're not doing any of the standard stuff (cake cutting, photo booths, catering, etc.) Our registry is all gift cards for Home Depot and Harbor Freight so we can buy stuff to work on our house! 😂 It's rather freeing having been here before and having the wherewithal to say "Nope, I don't care about that!"

    Do it!

    Dooooooooooo it!!!!

Seriously, it was so much fun. We blended our love of stage combat with my love of Harry Potter, and "fought" our friends. The first two "waves" were DH and myself against one friend each, then we teamed up to fight two more friends successively. Other friends magicked the defeated off the dance floor, and it was just so. much. fun. Huge hit, everyone loved it, the video and pictures are magic...

And it's REALLY fun to just ... drop this on social media:

What *tacky* thing are you doing?? 1

Hmmm i guess mine is the fact that our venue was split. split in terms of it was at a restaurant and they gave us a banquet room except you had to walk thru the regular restaurant that still opens to the public to get to the banquet room. so that was kind of awkward since you had to walk thru these tables of patrons

Are you the older one? No one cares if the groom is older than the bride, but when it's fhe other way around - everyone has an opinion 😂

He's the older one, but I'm closer in age to his oldest daughter (10 years older than her) than I am to him. So we get some judgy raised eyebrows sometimes!
