Do not play list?

FH and I were making a list a few weeks ago. Just curious on what others were adding to their do not play list.

We're doing live band Karaoke...but we are taking a couple songs out of their book. The first to go was "Lips of an Angel." It's an ok song, but girls seem to swoon for it..um...hi...it's about a dude cheating on his girl! lol

Anything by Lady Gaga or current teenie-bopper music, also music w/ offensive language.

@Jennifer, I don't understand why girls seem to swoon over that song. I remember when it first came out, I was like wow, people are crazy about a song about a guy cheating on his girl friend.

We said no to any kind of rap...it was out of the question. But our DJ was friends with DH's BFF prior to our wedding and we got to know him pretty well, so he kind of knew our taste in music by the time we got married.

I told me DJ to play nothing by anyone who is currently or has formerly had a show on Nick or Disney.

We also nixed rap, heavy metal, and anything with offensive language. I also nixed chicken dance and electric slide, but MIL insisted and I didn't want to argue on the wedding night.

FH hates Silversun Pickups 'Panic Switch' more than any other song ever... Mine is 'Ring of Fire'. In both cases these songs remind us of a bad-bad point in our lives and will NOT be played.

And probably none of those 'group' dances...

OMG we have a do-not-play list that's a mile long. FH used to DJ and he's a major music snob. Smiley smile I don't even know what's on it TBH.

The only thing I know for sure is there will be no Journey. FH hates Journey with a passion. It personally offends him that people go nuts for "Don't Stop Believin'", I don't know why. It's actually really funny b/c he's usually so mellow, and he overreacts to that song like crazy. I would love to have our DJ mix in the first few bars at the beginning of our first dance just to mess with him, but then everybody would want to hear it and FH would die.

We'll have no rap, screaming in the mick music, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber. We are also going to add no Michael Jackson, but if someone requests it, we'll let it be played but are limiting the number of songs.

@kris s. My dad is a HUGE Journey fan, so we'll definitely have "Don't Stop Believin" played, plus FH and I like Journey also.

@everyone else about "Lips of an Angel", also not playing. One of the first songs our DJ pointed out that everyone loves and also can't understand why since it's about cheating.

No chicken dance, hokey pokey, or macarena. These were the only three songs I told FH I absolutley did not want hear at the reception. We have a few others - Lips of an Angel, Crazy B****, Wild Thing, anything by Eminem or Justin Bieber.

    Slightly off topic..

You have no idea how many B&G's have told me things like "no macarena, no chicken dance, etc etc "

and then during the night (usually after the couple has had a few wobbly pops) one of them ends up coming up and specifically tells me to PLAY IT!

IE: the song YOU hate cause its overplayed and cheezy, aint so bad anymore when your on the dance floor having fun LOL

as to songs that are not 'wedding appropriate', If you have a DJ, hopefully he knows whats not appropriate ;-)

I actually had my band play "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morrissette just because that's one of my sister-in-law's favorite artists. Sure enough, as soon as it started, sil jumped right up and danced and sang with me for the whole song! Totally worth it, even though it's not the most appropriate song at a wedding :-)

The only thing on our do not play list was Lynryd Skynyrd. Easy enough to accomplish- we had a band we know so we got to pick the playlist. We were going to do iPod music at the break, but it turns out my brother, sister, and nieces and nephews had a special presentation they did so we didn't play any music then.
