What should the best man wear to a wedding if there are no other groomsmen?

Oliver, on August 8, 2016 at 10:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Anyone out there with experience with this? We are only having a Best Man and Maid of Honor. No wedding party. We aren't sure if it will look weird or not if we let the best man wear whatever suit he wants. Do you think he should match the suit color of the groom? We were thinking of matching ties either way.

Thanks for any wisdom you can lend!

I told my groomsmen to wear a black suit (they all had one already) and my FH is wearing a black suit with all matching ties. My bridesmaids are wearing plum colored dresses.

I think it depends on the level of formality you're looking for. If the groom is in a tux, then I think it'd look better if the BM was in a tux. If the groom is in a black suit, and BM owns a black suit, let him wear that. This really is one of those areas where you can do whatever you like, within reason and budget.

At first my FH was going to wear a grey suit and groomsmen wear black, but we thought all black would look better.

FH is wearing a dark gray suit with black vest and tie. BM will wear a black suit with black best and tie to match my MOH.

I think the best man should match the color suit to the groom but maybe match the tie to the MOH dress color.

We had a small bridal party if a MOH and BM. We just told the BM to wear khaki pants and a white shirt and we provided khaki suspenders and a bowtie for him. DH wore khaki pants with a vest. So they looked similar, but not exactly alike since we wanted DH to stand out a bit.

Hi Oliver, welcome to WW! Make sure to upload a picture for your avatar (instead of the default icons) so that we can get to know you and tell you apart from all the other posters.

Totally personal preference! I still think it would look nice for the best man to coordinate a little bit. I like @mimitrue's suggestion!

We just had MOH and BM. Groom wore a traditional black tux (only because he owns a tux but doesn't own a single good suit!) , no vest and purple bowtie. BM wore a black suit, white shirt, and we bought him a purple neck tie to match MOH's dress. I thought it might look odd to have groom wear a bow tie and BM wear a long tie but it looked fine!

You have a lot more flexibility when you have a small wedding party.

I think the suits should match - at least be the same color and wear the same color shirt. His tie could either match your FH or could coordinate with the colors the MOH is wearing.

Also, please change your avatar to something other than the generic rings. They are associated with spam/trolls, so it will help you get more responses to your posts and it also distinguishes you from other generic avatar users, which makes it easier to read the threads. You don't have to make it a picture of your face if you are concerned about privacy, it can literally be a picture of anything. Here's how: On safari/internet explorer: Settings > Profile and Privacy Settings > Account Image > Change Image > Upload > Update Profile Settings
