What should my groom and groomsmen wear?

Julia, on May 6, 2022 at 8:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hello! My fiancé and I are planning our wedding for 9/16/23. I’ve found the colors I want but I’m not sure what my groom and his groomsmen should wear to match. Our colors are burgundy with sunflowers. It’s more of a rustic feel because our venue will be at a barn. I’m searching for a white wedding dress (I know some like ivory but I’m too much of a fan) with a red and sunflower bouquet to match my bridesmaids in burgundy. So with that in mind, what should the guys wear? I thought navy but I didn’t know if that was too many crazy colors. Other than that, I’ve seen gray, brown, black and just burgundy to match. I’m conflicted as you can see 😂 Thanks for the help!

My fiancé will be wearing burgundy with a tan vest so his groomsmen will be wearing tan suits to match

Your design sounds awesome! I love sunflowers at weddings, I think they're underrated.

First, decide whether you want to style the groomsmen to coordinate with the groom, or with the bridesmaids. My fiancée and I want the whole wedding party to match, so we can stand out. The guys are wearing classic tuxedos with accessories to match the bridesmaid's dresses. But for the record, I think navy would work just as well as burgundy!

I think grey suits with burgundy vests and burgundy ties/ bowties would look nice! Then you could get them sunflower boutonnieres.

Ah! Thank you for asking this - I definitely have a similar vision: burgundy, sunflowers, and the rustic barn/ fall feel! We're getting married in October.

Right now, we are leaning towards grey for the suits, with burgundy accessories to match the bridesmaid dress color. I think we might go simpler on the groomsmen's look so that my fiancé can stand out a little more.

Hi Julia! I really like the burgundy and sunflower idea. Here are some pictures I found on Pinterest. I think the grey looks nice. I also like the idea of navy, I don’t think it would be too many colors. What should my groom and groomsmen wear? 1

Burgundy will be a beautiful fall color! Of the pics above, I think navy blue looks best. If you want a more casual/rustic wedding, navy blue/khaki pants with white button down shirts and burgundy suspenders and ties would look good.

I would find your dress first so that whatever you choose for the groom and groomsmen compliments the dress.

Some friends of friends of mine just got married last month. Their wedding was outside at a popular state park, and then their reception was indoors at a rustic lodge. The groom wore a burgundy tux, and it looked great! Very fitting for what they were going for. I wasn't there (like I said, friends of friends), but I saw the pictures afterward. Now if you're having burgundy bridesmaid dresses, then that might be a bit much, but it might also look really good. I also think the navy blue would really work and not be too "out there".
