I'm off for the summer and three episodes of Four Weddings plays everyday during the week. It's interesting to see which weddings win and why. I would like to know what you think makes a wedding great or fun. I asked a few friends and family members this to get some input for my wedding and I thought about the weddings I have been to. I don't really "judge" ceremonies, but I think great food, music and some kind of drink makes a reception fun and enjoyable.

I've been to a wedding that had the best décor and floral I had ever seen and the food was great, but it was a dry wedding and the music wasn't good so I literally ate and just sat down the whole night. I want to hear your opinions/stories.

Given the fact that I'm usually the DD at things and usually end up having to deal with those who have hit the open bar,the open bar concept has never been one that I'm thrilled with.

I've been to weddings that were ceremony only and some that had full dinners with all the extras. I think the wedding that sticks in my mind the most was the one that didn't have a reception, and the like music was beautiful, and all the guests were asked to share a story about the couple. though I don't remember the exact words of the vows, I remember tearing up and my husband squeezing my hand because we felt they were so beautiful.

maybe I am strange, but I'm always talking about things like the dress and the vows.

I guess the main thing that makes a wedding reception fun for me is having options. if it's over a meal time, I like the buffets where you can choose vs the sit downs where I have to stay in your seat for a long time and I'm fed something that could send me to the ER.

I like it when there's good music and dancing in a beautiful venue.

I enjoy just about all weddings, but the ones where you have to stay in your seat because there's no dancing doesn't work well for me. those MCs who try to tell you what to do turn me off.

but no matter what, if I'm at a wedding where I care about the couple, and the wedding has a couple in love with supporting people that care about the couple, that's the main thing that makes for a wonderful wedding in my eyes. Smiley smile

you can have the most expensive dress on the planet and food that melts in your mouth, but I think the bottom line is that if talk at the table is 'I'll give them 3 years max' then that's a sad wedding.

I agree on food, drinks, and music. I hate to admit that all the other details like diy crafts, chair rentals, and cutesy signage probably won't be remembered by guests after all.
