What is your Marriage Motto?

Kayla, on October 26, 2013 at 11:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 39

We met with our photographer today to book our date and do a free engagement session! (yaaaay for free!). Well she asked us "What's your marriage motto?" I never even thought about that before she asked me. I asked her what hers was and she said "I will love you more tomorrow than I do today" I thought that was beautiful so now FH and I are working on a marriage motto that means a lot to us.

What's your marriage motto?

If you don't have one..will you make one now?

I can't add picturesSmiley sad but we saw this a while back and found it funny. but we kinda stuck to it." haha

"When we get married, divorce is not an option. You mad? Take your butt in the other room and calm down, because we are going to work this S*** out!"

Lover never fails has always been our thing though.... So maybe that's kind of our motto?

I don't know if it's my motto but I love the expression "You don't marry the person you can live with. You marry the person you can't live without."

I guess my motto would be pick your battles (because some things really aren't worth fighting over)

I have never heard of that (seems like a very strange idea if you ask me) but if someone pressed me to pick one.

"Let Go, And Let God," the inspiration behind this, is due to the fact that some couples have difficulty keeping God in their marriages. When things get tough, the battle is never ours. Allow God to intervene in our marital differences, pray, and stay together!!

I've never heard of a marriage motto, but I think it's kind of a cool idea.

I read somewhere an interview with an old couple who had been together for decades and were asked their secret. They said they lived in a time when if something was broken, you didn't threw it away - you fixed it.

I think that's kind of how we live.

Marriage is more than a motto. I mean, it's cute, and if it inspires you, that's great.

@Celia I am well aware that marriage is more than a motto. This was just a cute, fun thing to think about. Just like when couples live by "don't go to sleep mad". That is something that helps their marriage and that is unique to their marriage.

@leanna- I love that one too!

"Love is not what sustains the marriage, it is the marriage that sustains the love."

I heard that on a show about purity balls...Anywho, I am not one of those uber religious people but that statement stuck with me. I want us to be committed to this marriage and to grow as both individuals and a couple.

I think that what has been lost, culturally, as we have become more centered around the individual and less conscious of the community, is that we forget that marriage is not just about "feelings" but it is also about partnership.

    "Get a dishwasher."

    :-P

Seriously, though? Not much of a "motto," but I guess you could say ours is kind of like "Communication is key."

We have never talked about having a marriage motto, but I think it's a cute idea. Perhaps I'll pass this along to FH, and we can come up with one. Smiley smile
