What is your dream bridal shower?

Chrissy, on August 29, 2013 at 9:33 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16

I had lunch with my aunt and uncle, who am I very close with, this weekend. My aunt told me that she'd be thrilled and honored to throw me the "shower of my dreams." This totally caught me off guard and almost moved me to tears, as I wasn't expecting it. My mom was just going to have some dessert at her house and invite some family over, so I was just so shocked. I told her (thank you first of all) and that I'd have to think about it, because I wasn't expecting it and don't know what I want. Now, I'm just so excited to have a such a special day planned in my honor!

She then sent me an email with a bunch of questions asking what I want, which I've attached. I have NO CLUE what to say. So I thought I'd ask you ladies — if money was no object, what is your dream bridal shower? Would you do lunch, appetizers or something unique? Any theme you'd want? Games you would or would not play? Where would you want it? Any other thoughts to share?

I'm hoping you can spark some ideas for me

Wow! That's so nice!! I'd match my wedding colors to the shower and go all out with decorations, have a professional photographer and everything! But mostly I'd Pinterest the sh*t out of my shower!!

That's tough because I don't care much about the shower. I told my mom I'd rather do a traditional family potluck (we have these all the time) to keep costs down. Honestly I'd love a jack and Jill, but FH says no way. But if someone wanted to make it that special, I'd feel like I needed to make up dreams lol. Maybe there is a favorite food of yours (I love Waikiki meatballs) that you want served or a favorite bakery to get cupcakes. Maybe an inspirational person or favorite celeb for theme (I saw someone did Audrey Hepburn) or place you've always wanted to go (like Paris or something)

I can honestly say I never had a vision for my bridal shower. Someone else threw it, and I let them make the decisions. I was just relieved to not have to plan another thing.

I agree with Renee...Pinterest that thing like crazy! I loved my Breakfast at Tiffany's theme (it also matched my colors) so I'd stick to that but go all out. I'd get huge tents outside, get linens and chairs...hire an acoustic guitarist to create the mood Smiley smile Have some passed appetizers and then a light lunch. I would have lots of fun drinks available...and yes I would play games! I know some seem lame but I and all of my guests got some really great laughs out of the games, looking back I'm so glad we played them!

OH and I'd top it off with some bomb a$$ favor, maybe puppies like Bridesmaids?

I really wanted a taco bar at the reception because I love Mexican food but FH wanted more elegant. So I think a Mexican fiesta would be a blast for a shower!!! There could be a pinata filled with airplane bottles (delish), a taco bar/nacho bar, margarita bar...complete with salsa music, sombreros....this would be soooo much fun :0) I had never thought about my "dream shower" until I saw this post and now I really want a mexican fiesta!!!!

I would want everyone to mail me their gift, so I don't have to have one.

I am not looking forward to having a group of ladies stare at me and ohh and ahh while I open gifts.

Tea party! Or maybe dim sum? I love good, so that would be at the center, but I wouldn't want anything too formal.

I love the tea party idea. Maybe a 1950's Stepford Wife style. Poke-a-dots, cardigans, floral dresses, big hair, tea and appies!

I personally would like a Jack & Jill since it seems funny that FI gets left out of a lot of stuff - but assuming It'd be just the girls, I love brunch and would do a tea party too. I hosted a Breakfast at Tiffanys shower and it was super cute (IMO) Smiley smile We asked people to dress in their best LBD (most actually obliged) and we outfitted them in plastic pearls!

I would love a theme. Something that I could dress up fancy for and everyone else too!

You lucky girl, don’t over think it, just enjoy! Good luck.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I never really put much thought into the shower, since I expected something low key. I've seen some super cute showers with pink and chevron, and I love that decor, but a theme could be fun! I was thinking it'd also be fun to do more of an activity, like painting or cooking class. Anyone done an activity at a shower?

Even though she's offered, I just hate asking my aunt to spend all that money.

The coolest one I ever went to was a Bunco party. We opened presents, and played Bunco for a while.

I also helped throw my cousin's, which was at a winery, and we did wine tastings. That was the simplified (but more expensive) version of what I wanted us to do -- more of a pairing-style, where we would have had an appetizer or small plate to pair with five types of wine. I would have done the research and cooking, but no... (still annoyed about that, it was uber pricey since we paid for everyone's meal AND wine, and there were 30 people there).

Mine was an around-the-world theme, so cousin, my sister and my mom (she just helped with the food, cousin and sis put it all together but don't cook Lebanese like Mom) did a table of food from a few different countries. We didn't do any activities other than opening gifts, just ATE.

At first I wasn't interested in having a Bridal shower until the best theme fell into my Lap. Alice in Wonderland! The perfect tea party full of imagination and wonder. And then I thought I wanted it customized so it's going to be Janica in Wonderland, since I am a blonde after all lol and of course I will be wearing the outfit but in my own style. Held in our garden with one long table for all the beautiful women! Tea, treats and appetizers for the menu. Simple but sweet. I think finding the right Theme will bring out all the amazing ideas inside of you!

I love breakfast so I would want some sort of breakfast/brunch bar where I'd have a bunch of pancakes or waffles and could put different toppings on. Then maybe some sandwiches and such for people that aren't fans of breakfast.

I love seeing all these ideas, I had no idea how elaborate people could be! I think an activity would be fun depending on your crowd. I think if I was going along with my Hawaiian themed wedding I'd want to have someone teach all my guests some basic hula steps. This would be really fun with guys there too haha!

Having said that I think the painting or cooking class could be fun!
