What is the best part of Jamaica to visit and when?

chocolategirl, on March 29, 2010 at 10:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Im thinking about there for our honeymoon, but our honeymoon is in AUgust, so I expect it to be extra hot over there for some reason.

I hear it's best to go to Montego Bay because it's closest to the airport, but Negril has the most beaches.

Any suggestions???

My FH and I area also going to Jamaica for our honeymoon - we're going to Sandals Negril in January. The only thing I'd worry about going in August is that it's right in the middle of hurricane season, which runs from June-November. Here's a pretty good explanation of the different regions in Jamaica: http://www.frommers.com/destinations/jamaica/0093020814.html (there's also a bunch of other good info on that site!)

We're going to Ocho Rios for ten days... I am SO excited!! Ocho Rios gets you away from the hustle & bustle of the big city feel (it's more of a tropical rainforest feel), but it's still RIGHT in the middle of things! Dunns River Falls is right there & so is one of the Margaritavilles! And I just looked it up and the high in Jamaica in August is only 89 degrees.... they stay pretty moderate year-round. Here's the link I went to: http://jamaica-guide.info/weather/august/

Fly into mobay (that's montigo bay, use Jamaican Air) and get yourself an all-inclusive stay at one of the Sandals Resorts.. or if you need to go cheaper, you can use SuperClubs. what Kristen said is right, August is hurricane season -- so while its cheaper, its a "at your own risk" kind of deal. If you do go, make sure to visit Dunn's River Falls (beautiful) and Margaritaville in Ocho Rios

I have been to Jamaica a few times to Sandals. You can fly into Montego Bay and take a bus to any of the other cities. I must say, Negril is the most beautiful. Sandals Montego Bay was ALOT of fun and about 5 minutes from the airport. Sandals Ocho Rios is very secluded and a nice big resort. Sandals Negril, to me, is by far the most fascinating. I have also been to Sandals Royal Carribean and Sandals Whitehouse. I would recommend NOT going during the months of May-September. I did however and it wasn't too bad, there was rain (and lots of it) but it didn't last for long periods of time. I would say the best month to go is March. I hope this helps! Smiley smile
