what does the venu deposit do?

Anna, on August 25, 2011 at 10:38 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Ok I looked at 2 places for our wedding/reception the one that we really wanted (but out of our budget) asked for a $525.00 deposit and said that holds the date and 500.00 of that goes towards the final bill. The place we are going with wants a $250.00 deposit she said that holds the date..but said nothing about any of that going towards the bill. So I know tomorrow I will ask her these details but im just wondering if any of you may know if it could be something she forgot to say? or is it not common for any of the deposit to go towards final bill? Thanks!!

I think the deposit usually goes towards the final bill, even if its just part of the basic cost of renting the space.

My ceremony venue deposit goes towards the final bill.

My reception venue deposit is a cleaning deposit; so if we don't clean up we don't get back our deposit.

My deposit DOES NOT go to the final bill. It was to secure the date only. I paid $350. The total cost of the reception is due after the wedding.

Always ask to see if it goes toward anything, it could just be a holding fee.

Usually it goes towards your final bill. So say you're renting a venue for $1,000, they want a $500 deposit to hold the reservation. Usually the balance is to be paid very close to the date or on the date of the wedding.

Our venue had a $700 deposit and does NOT go towards the final bill. It will be getting refunded to us after the wedding. SUCKS!

We had to put $2000 down, but the entire thing goes toward the final bill.

Wow your wedding is in december and you are still looking for a venue? That would give me a heart attack... generally the deposit goes toward the actualized cost of the event. Just be very clear during the contracting process and be sure what you are signing. Congratulations!

Your deposit should go towards the total due for the wedding costs associated with the venue. Your deposit is the venue's protection. If you cancel, they aren't out all the money they would have made if they had booked another event instead of yours.

Just a tip- I'm not sure if there is some hurry, but alot of places will have a premium for December. With all the company Christmas parties and such- they make bank! Most of the better places will be booked, and all the good caterers are gone.

If you can, wait until January- you may save a ton.

There is no hurry...We were suppose to do it in April but had to push it back cause of money and we were also in process of buying a home so it was stressful with just that. The place we picked is a country club and the prices are set..they dont change. We did worry about Christmas parties booking and so far all the places we did look at had Dec 10th open. Guess we got lucky.

My deposit does not go towards the actual cost it is held and if nothing is ruined or no damages are done then we get it back, clean up is included so we dont have to worry about that. just actual hole in the wall, glass broken, something like that!

In all the research I've done it depends on the venue. Some want to hold funds just in case you mess something up. Others want to hold it incase you try to run out and stiff them. My venue required 25% of Food cost (before tax) so I lucked out and it goes toward the final bill

Our deposit goes toward the total cost of the venue but 45 days before I have to give them a security deposit of $1000 that is refunded if there are no damages.
