What does the Flower Girl wear? Who pays?

As the bride, am I responsible for choosing what the flower girl wears? I was always under the assumption that her parents would choose what she wears, but her mother seems to be under the impression that I should choose what she wears. Do Flower Girls traditionally wear the same color as the bridesmaids? Or do they dress in white like the brides? Also, am I responsible for paying for her dress? I need some guidance.

The bride chooses, the parent pays (that's why you should always check with the FG and RB parents first if you can include their children, because the parents pay for the attire). It's just like the rest of the bridal party. However, what you choose should obviously take into consideration the budget of the parents. I would suggest having the mom pick out the shoes so hopefully your FG can wear shoes she already has or rewear them in the future.

I picked what our two flower girls wore. We ordered a ton on Amazon (free shipping and returns with prime) and the girls weighed in on the ones we liked. They were in purple to match the colors. Dresses were only $45. My sil (one of fg's moms) specifically asked for it not to be white so she could wear it again or for dress up. That was fine with me since my dress was champagne and ivory and I didn't want it to clash.

I had wanted my FG to wear white with a navy sash (my BMs will be in navy), but the FG's mom bought a dress before asking me... and it was bright pink. Luckily pink is one of my colors. It's a cute dress but not what I had in mind. I'm gonna just go with it since the FG loves it. (She's only 3). FG's mom bought it off Zulily.

My friend and I both follow Dollcake Vintage on instagram, they have beautiful dresses but they are a little more on the pricey side, especially for a child. So I insisted to pitch in some money towards it since I fell in love with it. But that was my choice. I would say if its a typical FG dress the parents pay.

Dollcake vintage, Trish Scully Child (they have a wedding line, super cute, and affordable) and Joyfolie have some cute options. Also, so does BHLDN, depending on your budget. My flower girls are wearing a blush color, bridesmaids wearing sage green. My dress is ivory with a blush belt, that is why I chose that color. So excited to see how cute they look!

My FMIL graciously offered to pay for my FHs niece and my daughter who are our flower girls. I choose the dresses but did seek approval from my FSIL and FMIL. My FHs niece will be 5 so she is wearing a burgundy dress and my daughter will be wearing white

My fg is wearing the same dress as me and fh and I are buying it. I don't think there are any set rules though

Technically you do choose but parents pay for the dress. I will have to pay for ours because my daughter will be around 1.5 yrs old when we get married.

Be sure the FG has a say in it. If she is very small and thinks the dress is "icky" she might change her mind and decide to throw a tizzy 5 minutes before she is supposed to walk down the aisle. I have experience with this. Give her some choices and also ask how she would like to wear her hair. If she feels part of he process it'll be better for all. Parents pay. We popped for the sandals and hair style.

Our flower girl is not wearing the same color as the bridesmaid or my dress. She is wearing a coral/pink color dress (red is our wedding color). She DID NOT want to wear a white dress and she didn't like the red one either. (It was a battle I didn't want to fight!). The flower girl picked out her own dress (she is 9 years old and my FH's niece). Her parents paid for the dress.

Our FG is our goddaughter and my best friend/MOH and I are actually paying for it 50/50 since she's getting married 2 months before me. Her dress is actually one we both love and just needs two details to be changed for my wedding. But I think the parents pay for it

I know that parents paying for the FG attire is the norm, but I don't agree with it. This is likely a dress she will wear once and it's for *your* wedding. I think the bride should purchase the dress, as well as choose it (with feedback from the parent).

You usually pick out her dress and the parents pay for it. Traditionally, her dress is white like yours but doesn't have to be! My flower girls dress is gold and black to match my theme colors

I bought my FG dresses, they were white with purple accents, purple being one of my wedding colors. I think the couple pays more often that not but of course there are exceptions. I found the FG dresses on Etsy for $35, so they are not too expensive. I got the flower crowns too, they were too cute to pass up and my FG loved them and twirling in these dresses!

Kari, do you have more info on this dress? It's adorable! I'm unable to find it among the thousands of flower girl dresses on Etsy. Thanks!

I'm paying for my FG's dresses. They are fairly pricey and I'm pretty insistent that they where it. I think it's unfair of me to have them pay for something I'm not letting them have too much opinion on. [The FG's love the dresses and are super excited about them] If they were cheaper and I had the parents have a say I might have a different opinion. To each their own!
