What do you think of this? .....place card question...

stacy, on September 28, 2010 at 9:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

so I was going to have someone write up the place cards all pretty and that idea fell through so now it's up to me. I have nice handwriting but not THAT nice. FH mentioned getting clear labels and printing the names and then sticking them on the place cards.....is that any good? Oh and is it better to have one card per person or do a person and their guest on the same card?

Thank you, thank you!!

I would think that if a couple is coming to your wedding, that they would be on the same card. What about printing them on your computer?

You mean, not printing labels, but the actual card? I have to see if I can figure that out. It seems that the closer the wedding gets, the more brain cells I lose!

Okay, on the same card, great!!

I would print on clear lables if only because it is waaaaayyyy easier than trying to align the text just right on those little cards, not to mention some printers won't even print jobs that small...

Dragonfly, I like that idea and so glad FH thought of it, I just want to make sure it doesn't look tacky or anything. I have enough snooty people coming to the wedding and I want to make sure they don't criticize anything I do. Thanks for the input!

I just printed mine out. It did take some trial and error. I got the cards at Michaels. It comes in a sheet the size of regular paper and you just stick in the printer. You can get a template to use online from the card manufacturer that will make sure it is lined up correctly. Just type the names into the template and print!

I think printing is great, but I would think about putting two people on one card. These get used by people to mark seats if they need to get up or are mingling. By putting two people on the same card, its hard for people to tell which seats are free and which ones are taken. This sounds funny because you put people at the same tables and max seats at a table, but people like to sit side by side and some will get in early because they want to be able to face the bride and groom, so giving them 2 cards lets them do that. Just my thoughts from a wedding i was at recently :-)

Susy, you have a point! My problem is some people responded by putting their name and guest. For example: Mr. Joe Schmo and Guest.

So, short of calling them and finding out who the guest is, I can't put Mr. Schmo's Guest on a card....

    Argh!

I saw some pre-perforated folding cards at office max. You print them out from your computer and fold them like a tent-card. I think that they are inteded to be folding business cards, but they would work nicely as name cards, too. On card per person is less confusing for where they need to sit.

We used one card per person for my daughter's wedding. Her's were custom made but essentially just a fancy tent card. See the attached photo.

I went to Office Depot and bought place cards that go into the printer, so that should be good! I'm also going to do one place card for each couple. Thanks for the input!

@ Stacy, you can just put "Joe Schmoe" on one card, and "Honored Guest of Joe Schmoe" on the second card.

Sorry I'm a little off today, didnt finish that thought....if you did it that way, they would each have a card to mark their plates. We were recently at a wedding where we were listed as Mr & Mrs ____ on one card. We put the card down between our plates, since I did not want to leave my purse at the table while we were up talking. When we returned, someone had taken FH's plate, not noticing the card, but there were people on the other side of my plate too...so we had to make everyone move to close the single seat gap on the other side, so we could sit together. 2 cards would definitely work better to avoid that awkward situation.

One card per couple (one card for single guest). I used manilla tags with an oval pale green label and printed the labels and stuck on the manilla tag which I tied to a mini baby boo. Papersource has great stuff.

I bought the pages of perforated edge cards from Michaels and we printed them.. then I bought some pretty "crystal" looking flower stickers and stuck one on each centered on the top.

If it is set up like a tent card, print it twice so the name is facing both directions. That way, all the people at the table will be able to see each other's names (in case they don't know each other).

If I'm somewhere that my tent card has my name on only 1 side, I turn it around (after all, I know my own name).

You can also get a chart made at Kinkos on foamboard, that lists everyone's names and table numbers, for about $60. Less time and work.
