What do you find tacky??

I realize that what one finds classy, another will find tasteless. To me it's important that my wedding doesn't look tacky. So I want to know, what do you find cheesy/tacky? I find that the songs like chicken dance are very cheesy! I also cringe whenever I see burlap 😭

LB, how could I forget the "obviously fake" fake flowers and rhinestones?! I hate those too.

Lol my dress cost almost as much as our BBQ catering will... to be fair, I intended to wear a $150 wedding dress and was then gifted the $1,500 one or I would NOT be dressed so nicely! 😂 And the BBQ was actually the tastiest food we could agree upon in our $25/pp catering budget. But we are upgrading the dinnerware so it's not paper plates and plastic sporks.

I agree it can be off-putting if the bride is acting like a princess and splurging on herself all over the place instead of on the guests. Like fancy dress, intricate hair & makeup, grand entrances to the reception, big special chairs for bride and groom... and then cash bar and bad food. I've never experienced it first hand but I see it all the time on wedding shows.

That reminds me, princess themes (or kinda themes in general although I've seen some done well..). Like goodness girl, you're an adult, try to act your age...

Didn't realize I have so many feelings... LOL

The only things I find “tacky” are the “last chance to run” signs that someone else mentioned and overinviting people. Nearly every wedding I’ve been to it’s been difficult to find a seat. It’s crappy when that happens and makes me feel like I’m crashing the wedding. I’m going to triple check and make sure everyone who comes to our wedding has a place to sit and feels welcome.

There's lots of things that I could mention, but most of it comes down to personal taste (eg., decor). The main things that make me cringe are, like PP said, things that make it seem like the groom is being trapped, trying to escape, more interested in football/video games than spending time with his partner, etc.

And, professional photos that are posed to catch the couple "in the act" - whether it's one partner hiking up the other's skirt, or them making out in the back seat of a car. I've seen a few photos like that on here, but I think the trend has mostly passed. I really don't want to see that.

Ugh yes the whole princess THEME for sure!!! It always makes it feel like the wedding is about HER rather than THEM.

Tiered receptions. Cash bars. Generally, poor hosting.

Beyond that, I think things are just personal taste. I am sick of rustic decor but just because it's not my taste doesn't mean it might not be perfectly appropriate for someone else.

I haven’t seen this one posted yet but JEANS.. I think when the groom and groomsmen wear jeans to the wedding is just so tacky!! Like it’s a night for you to dress up what is gonna hurt to wear dress pants. I am so sick of the burlap trend. It has been overdone.

Although I do not like the chicken dance, my kindergartener just learned it this year and is requesting it. I just may have to!

Rustic themes are beautiful. I just see it overdone a lot! I'm from Texas so I see burlap and rustic decor all the time. Maybe that's why I advert my eyes! Lol

Glad someone finally said it...wearing jeans to a wedding!!! Unless the entire wedding is super casual then I can't STAND when people wear jeans to a wedding. It's ONE special night, people. Wear a pair of slacks and a collar lol I think pictures look terrible when everyone is all dressed up nice and there's that one person....ugh!!!

Hopefully this doesn’t go left lol Some of these replies are interesting lol I must say that we aren’t doing the money dance but for some it’s actually a cultural thing. So I won’t just call that tacky. Our wedding is based off the princess & the frog so PP were a little funny (I know my age lol) but we’re also tying it in with NOLA altogether. I am considering skipping the garter thing bc I don’t want it to be awkward for the older guests. I think the only thing that really annoys me is cash bars. I haven’t seen anyone wear jeans to any I’ve been to but I guess that would bother me.

Not just vegan but Vegan POTLUCK? So they’re forcing people to make and bring food they may not even want to eat? I see a lot of veggie trays coming to their wedding lol

Vegan food can actually be delicious depending on what dish it is. It’s a moral choice for most because they don’t believe in killing animals. I’m not a vegan or a vegetarian, just thought I would point that out.

You just have to be creative. Vegans don’t eat only veggie trays and salads. 😂 FH and I prepare a lot of vegan meals. Curries, soups, tacos, sandwiches, wraps, etc.

I dont think potluck weddings are appropriate, though. When I go to wedding, I at least expect to be fed!

Anyone else here going through the responses just to figure out what people will think is tacky at their wedding?!! 🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️🙋🏼‍♀️

So far I’m guilty of the following:
1- plastic tableware (disposal plates, knives, forks, spoons, cups)
    2- metal chairs
3- Dry wedding (reception in a church)
4- potentially poor catering? We are doing a build your own pasta bar, so I guess this will be a matter of opinion- but it fit the budget!

    😂

Don't sweat it! 😂 We all have to make these choices based on our budgets... pretty sure if we all had $30k or so to spend we'd upgrade our chairs and dinnerware lol

Build your own pasta sounds amazing to me actually! And I’m also doing disposables so oh well. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re having tacos anyway and you don’t really need a fork and knife to eat them.
