What do you consider a big wedding?

Hey guys! Just curious what you consider a big wedding numberwise? Working on locking down the guest list. When we first put it together we had over 500 people! After several run throughs and edits, we've got it knocked down to 340, then 260 and now about 180. Just curious what is considered a small...

Anything under 100 is a small wedding to me, and like 100-150 seems about normal/big enough, BUT my FH's family always says "oh well they're having a SMALL wedding" which pisses me off because we are having 200 people, that's not small we just don't want to invite every single person we've ever met! So by FH (kind of a booniesville area) anything over like 400 is big, but they just invite like the whole village *eyeroll.

I'm honestly curious; how does a couple even consider 500 people as a guest list?

    Over 150 is big.

Normally I'd say over 200, but it would depend on the type of wedding.

If I'm invited to a wedding for 200 - church ceremony and cake and punch in the church hall afterward, and we're only there a total of an hour - I don't think I'd consider that a "big wedding."

200 guests, with a musical prelude, ceremony, cocktail hour, and full reception - 6 hours or longer (plus after party), then yes, I would consider it a big event.

Anything over about 125 i think. ours was 175 which just seemed bonkers to me, but it somehow worked! we did feel like we didn't have quite enough time to talk to everyone for as long as we would've liked but i think that's probably true of most hosting situations...

    For me personally...

    Small: 2-40

    Medium: 40-100

    Large: 100-150

    Huge: 150-225

    Whoa Nelly: 225+

I've never attended a wedding with more than 150 guests before.

I would say anything over 100 is big. I'm having a little over 50 at mine which I think is on the smaller side.

We are having 200 guests but could have easily done 250 but our venue maxs at 200 capacity. It seems like it's gonna be huge to me

We did 100. Sadly families are big and a lot of ppl will not be invited. That guest count is mainly a small part of my side

FH wants to add guests to bring our invites from 62 - ~80. I think 80 is too big.

Size is relative on what you are comfortable with.

Fro 150+ is big. we have 147 on the guest list and hoping to get around 120ish. I dont think FH and I even know 500 people combined that we are close enough to consider inviting to our wedding.

Most of the weddings I've attended are 250-300 people and those are large weddings.

I would consider a small wedding to be under 75 people.

I would say anything over 125 is large. When I see numbers like 300, I literally can't even believe it. I don't see how you can greet anyone or enjoy the time with all those people! To each their own though.

100+. Heck, I'd say 75+ just due to anxiety. We invited 144 and I just hope a ton of people don't come!

In my opinion under 100 is small, 100-175 is average, and 175-250 is BIG. IMPO, 300+ is a carnival, not a wedding. We went to a 300 person wedding recently, and there is just nothing intimiate about that and seems like the opposite of what a celebration of love should be about (let alone you are definitely not getting around to say thank you to everyone!) To each their own though! (Regionally, 175 seems to be the average size on Long Island, so maybe 225 would be considered big?)
