What do I include in a ceremony program?

TheLuckiest, on April 7, 2013 at 12:25 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

What typically is included in a ceremony program? I know I want to include a page on all the people in the ceremony, but I have only seen one real example, and it did not include a whole lot info. We're getting married at my church (Presbyterian), and I'm starting to plan the program now.

What are you including? Are you doing anything different, or have you seen something you really liked? Thanks ladies!

I would it make it something like the picture I found below. Note: I did not make this, I just found this through google. But hopefully you get an idea of what it should look like.

You can include "In Memorium" and also "Thank You" to the guests; "Unplugged Ceremony" and also directions to reception venue.

    Thanks ladies!

@Nancy T...I guess I'm just not sure where to place all that text. I want the program to have a nice flow.

@Kiera S...I really have other things I should be working on today instead (like grading papers), but I really need to start on this too because I don't want to be doing programs the week before the wedding.

I feel like I'm doing so much desktop publishing, and it's certainly not easy!

I'm very particular about words. I can "say the same thing" 20 different ways, but when it comes to words in print, I select each word carefully because of how the meaning changes what I say changes...not just obviously, but words and stylistic layout of text also change the feeling of the document, or the emotion of it. I finished my invitations, I printed out the envelopes, and after I get the basic outline for the program together I will be working on my response and reception cards. It's so much work!!

We wrote the words to our favorite love song on the 1st page, next was parents and bridal party intro with a "In memory of " on the bottom of the page. The 3rd is the ceremony order, followed by a trivia page about us. A Sonnet about love on the 5th page, and the final page was a thank you to our parents and to the guest

It can be as simple as an 8.5 x 11, landscape mode, folded in half.

Front page with your names, date, location.

Inside page with order of ceremony

    Opposite page with wedding party

Back page with TYs & Memoriums

Go to Etsy and search wedding programs for some ideas on what is included. There really are no rules and can be as small as 1 page to a booklet! Really depends on what you would like to include. I have actually seen a wedding program that was incorporated into a fan recently on Pinterest, which would be perfect for an outdoor spring or summer ceremony.
