What do I do with two registries?

Veronica, on April 27, 2015 at 10:48 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hey everyone! So I've been reading a lot about registries and what to get in them and how many gifts, and a lot of people say that we should get two registries to give people options of where to go. I totally get that, but then the problem is I don't know how to register for both registries. I've been told I shouldn't repeat things in both registries but then I feel like I don't have enough "gifts" for both stores, especially if I take into consideration the suggestion about registering 3 gifts per invitation in order to give them options. If that was the case, I would have to register for around 300 items! And there is simply not enough things we would want unless we start registering for random stuff like toilet paper (I had a friend do this once, I'm not even kidding)

So how did you girls register for two stores? Is it ok to have a smaller amount if two stores or the full amount in one store?

You don't have to "do" anything. If I registered for 3 gifts per invitation I'd be closing in on 1,000 gifts.

    I have about 90 gifts on BB&B, and about 20 on Cabela's. That's all we need/desire.

I actually have 3. Each is pretty different but some of the items are alike but different. I have one through amazon because I also have guests for out of the country. Then I have Kohls and BBB. I have very modern taste and I have found things at each place to put on my registry. The main thing that is pretty duplicate is the kitchen ware but other then that each is different for the most part. Each of the registries have less then 100 each and some only 20 items.

We registered at Target and Kohl's and paid no attention to how many gifts we're "supposed" to register for. If everything gets bought, then people have the option of giving us cash or giving us nothing. Or they could just pick something out they think we might like. It doesn't matter to us.

ETA: I did not double up on anything, meaning if I put a bedspread on one, I skipped it on the other.

I registered at BBB and Target. I didn't duplicate items, but picked which items I liked best at each store. I also didn't pay attention to their "recommended items" because I'd hate for the presents I put on there just to have more stuff to be bought and for the important stuff to be skipped. I keep an eye on my registries, and if I'm running low in a store's registry, I'll just add more things to it.

@Lauren R I was thinking target and BB&B because I know practically everyone has one of those around. I wanted to make it easy.

We registered at BBB and Target. None of our items were duplicates, but we did try to keep in mind which of our guests would most likely shop where, as some are more financially limited than others and some live hours away from one store or the other. We actually had a really hard time getting over sixty items on one registry, and I doubt there are twenty on the other.

Don't worry about registering for "enough" items. We are inviting close to 300 guests and only registered for about 150 items between our two registries. Register for things you want/need. Definitely make sure you have enough to cover your shower if you're having one and that you have enough things in different price points. But people can always give you cash/checks if your registry empties out before the wedding.

Thank you ladies! I won't bother registering for the suggested amount and just go with what I want. Honestly if someone doesn't find something they like on the registry, I'm finding with them getting me whatever they want, nothing at all, or even better cash! Thanks!
