What do day of coordinators do??

Lisa, on April 27, 2020 at 9:01 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8
Hello everyone,
My wedding is coming up in January and the venue that we booked does not have venue coordinators. Basically set up and tear down would be done by family or friends and I feel really bad doing that. Do day of coordinators take care of set up and tear down if requested? The tables and chairs would be at the venue already I would just need everything put in place. I can’t get any clear answers on what specifically DOCs do. I don’t want to spend the money to hire one if they don’t help with these things.

What a DOC does varies based on package. I would definitely recommend hiring one.

We paid $1100 for ours and she set minor decor, all vendor communication for 2 months prior to the wedding, timeline, coordinated rehearsal, helped gather all of my personal belongings at the end of the night, etc. Ours also had a bunch of decor items that we could use for free (table numbers, right bearer pillow, flower girl basket and cake cutting set).
My family and I just showed up and she directed everything.

That is what mine will be doing (december wedding).

They can help set up/tear down and mostly make sure the day is going according to your timeline. I'd recommend checking out coordinators online and seeing what their package includes. If you're not sure, call them and ask what it includes!

Our coordinator is doing the set up & tear down for an additional fee. Definitely worth it since ours is also a destination wedding with a tight window for set-up and tear-down!

It will depend on what they include in their package. We also discussed what our DOC would be doing in a call before we hired her. She and her team did set up and breakdown of decor, provided w bunch of “extra” decor which was great, organised the timeline and was communicating with all our vendors leading up to and on the day. They also helped us stay organised and on schedule. I’d recommend one, especially if there isn’t a coordinator on site. It’s nice not have to think of anything besides enjoying yourself!

Ours is doing set up and tear down, but also vendor communication, running the rehearsal and keeping us all on schedule.

I hired a DOC purely for set up purposes, so you can definitely find one for that.

I think it depends what your venue is doing. I personally didn't want to spend a lot of money on a DOC. No one in my family has before. We also use someone from the family. We get to set up our decorations the day before , and I'm a little ocd when it comes to things so I'd rather do this myself with my bridal party. Our venue coordinator will be setting the tables, chairs , food , and all of that up for us since they provide that. They will also be cleaning up. So it didn't make sense for us to hire a DOC. Our family DOC will just be ensuring our bridal party walks in on time , and that the ceremony and reception flows as we'd like. Also ensuring I have what I need that day. If you don't think you need one and your venue is doing a lot of the work , then don't waste money on hiring one. If you're going to have to do a lot of work, maybe hire one or use someone from your family who is really organized.

This will all vary on which package you select. Our DOC helped with set up and tear down. She was also the point of contact for all of our vendors. If any issues arose, they were taken to her first to address. Basically, they keep your day running smoothly so you can remain stress free. They are worth every penny!
