What Bra to Wear When Dress Shopping

Puck, on November 22, 2012 at 12:57 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

Okay, first off, I do not wear bras 90% of the time. I am 5'7", 120 pounds, somewhere between a B and C cup and I don't really need a bra for lift and I don't like the feel, so I only wear them when I want to push up to show cleavage or wear one of those wonderbra type bras from Victoria's Secret that adds a cup size. I WILL be wearing a bra at the wedding (I want cleavage!), however, but I don't actually OWN a strapless bra. Do I need to go and buy a strapless before going? What kind of bra do you WEAR with bridal gowns? I know this sounds like a stupid question, but for someone who doesn't actually wear them most of the time, I'm not sure what to do.... Should I bring the wonderbra type and my normal push up so I have options? I'm just not certain...

I wore a strapless, but the salesgirl had me take that off, and she gave me bras that did certain things for certain dresses.

I always feel funny on these bra posts because maybe I'm just nuts, but when I tried on dresses I was braless. Most of the dresses I tried on were corset styles and as long as I 'put them in place' while I got strapped in, all was good. Mind you, I'm by no means small at 34ddd. I'm still debating on whether I'll wear a bra day of, since I feel like it adds bulk. If you feel like you need one, most shops carry them or you could always just tuck the straps down to get a general idea. Hope that helps!

I plan on wearing a corset under my dress so I'm just going to figure out which corset I wanna wear(whether it's overbust or underbust) and find a bra accordingly if I need one. if you have any issues about buying a strapless bra try buying one that is convertable, that way you can wear it around with or without the straps. You can also try the backless/strapless ones that are just cups that bring your tata's closer and help with cleavage.

For the first appointment I didn't wear a bray trying them on either so don't feel bad if you don't! The second shop I went to I wore one and it actually fit and was comfortable (a first for me) So I left it on to try on the dresses.

Well, it seems anything goes, although ideally you would just wear a strapless one. But, I am larger on top, so a strapless bra is really a useless item in my life. So I just wore a regular one. Sure, it's dumb and you have to tuck the straps in, but I was more comfortable doing that. Take one bra that you already have. Don't buy a new one before the dress. I ended up buying 3 different bras even with the dress in hand, and that gets really expensive.

    @SXC, you're my new hero :-)

I wore the kind I would wear to the wedding, it was like a hot pink/coral color with sequins and lace from Victoria's Secret. The consultant complimented me on it. I didn't even think about the bra honestly. But it's a convertible one, goes halter, low back, and it's a push up because I hate normal bras.

Another thing to consider just because you don't need lift ( mine are plenty perky and don't need help) movement will slowly break the muscles down and without support they will eventually need help.

My FH teases me because I wear mine to bed and everywhere else. And I rather my straps hang out than not wear any.

Also it helps cover when you're cold!! Lol. I'm always cold! So mine keeps them warm! Lol

My bridal shop lady gave me a strapless corset top to try on dresses with. I wouldn't buy a new one yet, just borrow theirs and wait and see what kind you'll need for the dress.

Have fun, I really enjoyed dress shopping day!!

Hey Puck maybe when you try on your dress just let them sit the cups in there. I did that but preferred the bra because it make me feel as though the dress wouldn't fall when I began to dance. I too have tiny tatas. lol

The bridal salon gave me a longline strapless to wear. At a D cup, even in my nice wedding gown I would never go braless. Bras help shape the ladies and put them into place!

I ended up buying the one I used to try on dresses too, because I felt really secure.

In fact, I tried to put the gown on without a bra, and it was a no go, my boobs looked horrible.

Just call the salons and ask what they recommend. At your size they might have loaners, or tell you to just go without.

I wore a strapless bra, but I'm 32f and no salon is going to have a sample bra in my size. I didn't actually wear the bra in my dress bc it was so supportive I didn't need it. Remember busty ladies- the bubbie support comes from the structure of the dress at your hips and ribcage more than at the bust ( if its a structured vs a flowy dress.)

Mrs s, one of these days we have to go bra shopping girl! You can TOTALLY find a non-useless strapless bra!

I agree that non-useless strapless bras exist--and I'm a 36F. A good strapless bra rests on your hips at the bottom, and has boning to keep it upright all the way up to your breasts. So there is just no way that anything can fall down.
