What are your makeup artist’s cleaning procedures now?

Future Mrs. T, on July 28, 2020 at 8:25 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 7
Hi all. I’ve never gotten my makeup done professionally before so I’m entirely new to this. I know makeup artists have cleaning procedures in place but just curious as to what they are currently given the climate.

The makeup artist i’m interested in told me she has another wedding in the morning before coming to me and just wanted to make sure i’m okay with the timeline. Is there anything specific I should be looking for? Thank you!

Any professional makeup artist should have a fantastic cleaning process in place; if they don’t, they could use their license. Every time I’ve gotten my makeup done, brushes have been sanitized in alcohol between clients and the artists have buckets for clean and used brushes, so they aren’t mixed. They’ve always used brushes on the lipsticks, so they never touch lips, and disposable wands for mascara.

They should already have: disposable mascara wands, all brushes will be clean, spray alcohol, sharpen pencils (lip or eye) and spray alcohol, not use their hands for applying any kind of product to your face.

As a makeup artist I’ve always done the same procedure, using disposable mascara wands & lip Wands. I carry enough makeup brushes for each client to have a new set also extra Incase a brush falls on the floor ect. Brushes a washed and Sanitized in brush cleaning solution kills 99.9% of bacteria. Also any powder products eyeshadow, blush etc is sprayed down with alcohol. I feel like all mua should be following the same protocol now more then ever.

My makeup artist came with 4 sets of brushes for everyone so nothing was reused. I’m sure most have enough brushes to use for each wedding but I’d be concerned about cleaning and drying time for the morning wedding? My ceremony was at 4:00 and we started makeup at 11 and there were only 4 of us...

In most states, make up artists would have had to submit safety plans to the state in order to reopen (or follow guidelines set by the state) and even if they didn't, they should be following some of their own covid rules. If you ask them what they've changed to keep their clients safe in the time of covid and they're able to give you a coherent response that makes it sound like they're taking things seriously, you'll probably be okay.

If they are licensed, they have high cleaning standards (COVID or not) just like any regular salon. I'd just check your state website to make sure they are licensed.
