What are you thoughts on candles along the aisle *pic*

Mrs. B for real :), on June 19, 2012 at 3:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Ok so my vision for the ceremony is minimal decoration so the focus is on FH and I as we exchange vows.

I already bought ivory silk petals and we have 2 big babies' breath arrangments up where we'd exchange vows. I would like to add candles (similar to pic) along the aisle but my mom is concerned about the 3 kids (2 2 1/2 year old RB and 1 7 year old FG) that will be at the wedding...

I think they are going to be so distracted by everything else that they won't touch, and their moms will be there to intercede too...what do you ladies think??

Both of the boys are pretty good listeners and they are holding a sign together so I'm trying to keep them focused on things other than the candles...

I think it's beautiful..if you are truly worried about them being knocked over or touched you could always go with the LED flickering pillars?

I think the candles are so romantic. I don't think the kids will be a problem.

I think they are beautiful, but a definite safety hazard. If you and their mothers show them at the rehearsal not to touch the candles and their mothers police them during the ceremony, it could work. Just make sure you have a very wide aisle. Otherwise, your dress could knock one over.

Thanks ladies. I think my mom is being overly cautious. I would have various sizes and luckily our set up will be pretty similar to the one in the pic as we're getting married in the ballroom where our reception is and we'll have free reign to make the aisle pretty wide.

FMC I thought about the flameless LED but the ones I've see are pricey!! (Not that the candles are extraordinarily cheap)

I love the candle idea, however I am with your mom on the safety issue, and not it just being the kids, but any other person that might not see them and trip, or just trip in general. Also, I would be afraid of them somehow possible be bumped into the train of the dress. LOVE the idea, but I think safety is more of an importance... I would go with FMC with the LED if you can find them. Smiley smile

We purchased 50 LED pillars and 40 LED votives. We went to Hobby Lobby and got them at 50 percent off. We purchased two a week. It is expensive but they will last forever! lol

I love it and I say go for it!! I saw something like this on pinterest and I would've done it if my wedding was indoors...I have a two year old and I wouldn't worry about it... what you can also do is make sure they don't walk through the aisle to get to their seat. DO IT! its cute!

I Love the candles adds so much to the ceremony & looks beautiful/romantic. However, it is a bit of a safety issue, is your Venue allowing candles? Like Soon to be Mrs. C said I hope it's wide enough cause if you have a long train something could go wrong & just make sure the kids know it's dangerous and not to touch, I'm sure their parents will keep an eye out.

You also could use the flameless candles (LED) I know it doesn't give the same effect you want but it's close & then safety issue is solved.

The center aisle was going to be closed to the guests in general with the rose petals. I am going to have people enter from the outside of the seating not up the center so I'm not worried about adults tripping.

The only other concern I had initially was my train catching it, but like I said, I can make the aisle wide enough so this won't be an issue.

ETA: The venue allows the candles, it was actually my wonderful planner there that suggested it knowing we were doing minimal floral for the ceremony and wanting to keep it classic and elegant

Mrs. B, as I said I love love love the idea. Candles set the mood and make it so beautiful. If you are concerned though you can get that look with LED. We lined our staircase leading down to the reception with the LED's and I thought they looked gorgeous.

I say go for it! This is gorgeous and romantic.. I'd definitely have to do something similar if my wedding were going to be indoors.

It looks gorgeous! If they allow it and it's OK in terms of safety, go for it.

There's a seller on eBay, quickcandles that has good prices and once in a while they have a decent sale. They also have a regular website but I found their listings on eBay cheaper.

I think it is very elegant and will look lovely with the baby's breath at the end of the aisle.

Instead of putting them in glass holders, have you considered luminaries? This way the kids won't see an actualy flame.

@Carol that's a great idea!! I'll have to do some research on luminaries now, I wonder if they have damask cut out ones haha, oh man!

@Mrs S. those quickcandles ones are saved in my "cart" on Ebay b/c they are pretty cheap for 36 of them with free shipping Smiley smile

@FMC--I did some research and found some at Walmart.com. I can get 30 for $150 which isn't *horrible*

Decisions, decision, thanks for all the input ladies it is much appreciated!!

I think it looks pretty!! I did see a bride on 4 weddings who knocked over a candle with the train on her dress and her dad had to stop and pick it up so that it didn't catch anything.
