What about after the wedding??

Chrysta, on August 24, 2020 at 4:37 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 32

We all spend sooooo much time planning every detail of our wedding day/night... then it’s over in the blink of an eye! I am curious what everyone has planned for the day(s) AFTER the wedding! Will you be leaving right away for a honeymoon? Taking a few days off to relax? Maybe planning something special or romantic for just the two of you? Share what you plan to do (or did) after the big event is over!

We are staying at a Airbnb the night of the wedding, then the morning after (maybe) getting brunch with his parents and my parents. Then we’ll be heading up to Gatlinburg TN for our week long honeymoon

Since we're doing a semi-destination wedding in our state, we are planning to go to brunch the next morning, and then visiting some wineries/breweries with our wedding party and families.

We have gift opening the morning after the wedding. Then on Sunday going home, relaxing for a bit then dinner with some of out of town guests again. Monday my FH and I are both off so we are going to spend the day relaxing at home with our dog. Then back to work Tuesday. We aren't going on a honeymoon until October and that's just a long weekend in the northwoods.

We hosted a farewell bunch for our family members and all out of town guests at the restaurant inside our hotel block. The rest of the day was spent cleaning up and eventually opening cards later that evening. We left for our honeymoon a month later.

Unfortunately my FH has to go back to work the following Monday and Sunday will be spent cleaning up the venue and saying goodbye to family members. We are going to take a mini honeymoon camping trip next time he gets a day off after the wedding.

I love the idea of brunch the day after. It combines three of my favorite things... sleeping in, eating, and alcohol with “breakfast” 😆

This sounds like a perfect, fun “day after”! (and it doesn’t require getting up early or doing anything super active, for those nursing a hangover LOL)

I remember when I was young, everyone used to host a big group of people and open presents the day after the wedding. I didn’t know people still did that or not. Are you planning on inviting everyone, just your family/wedding party, or will it be just the two of you opening presents?

I think just whoever wants to join us. 2 people on my FH's side of the wedding party have to fly out in the early morning that day so they won't be joining us. So I'm thinking just my family and some of the bridal party. Really anyone who stays at the hotel will be welcomed. But I know some will probably want to get going in the morning which I understand. Every wedding I have been or have been in does the morning after with gifts and a light breakfast...I thought everyone did that...

Right now my ceremony is out of state so, I made a reservation for dinner after the wedding and then we leave back home the next day. I would be on vacation for a week after the wedding and then 2 weeks later is my reception. After that, I'm waiting to do my honeymoon until Feb. hoping that this COVID eases back a little. My plan was to go to Puerto Rico, but with all the restrictions, I rather go later than sooner.

All my older cousins’ weddings we’ve gone to always had a family brunch after and gift opening so my mom wants to host a morning after brunch and then she was very adamant about us leaving for our honeymoon right away (instead of waiting til later in the year to accrue more vacation) so we are still on the high of our wedding day

I kind of like the idea of doing a honeymoon trip awhile after the wedding- it extends the fun and excitement!

As we’re having a sunrise ceremony/ reception, once it’s over we'll do a beach day with anyone that wants to join us. Wedding evening, sunset dinner with family and the day after breakfast with anyone that wants to join.

While most of our guests leave Sunday, we’ll be staying at our resort for the week.

We invited a lot of friends and family back to our home for the days following so we could hang out at the lake. We opened gifts with our parents. All our guests left Monday after the wedding. I took the entire week off work to unpack our DIY/supplies we took to the wedding venue, cleaned the house and put away our gifts. I ran errands, returning borrowed items, dry cleaning and did personal care. Not to mention daily naps!! Highly recommend taking time off AFTER to decompress and do "stuff".

Fingers crossed for a February 2021 honeymoon!

Since our wedding is 2.5+ hours away for everyone and is sunrise on Saturday, everyone is planning to stay Friday night and most plan to leave Saturday afternoon. After our breakfast reception, anyone who wants is welcome to join us in town and/or up on the mountain depending on what kind of activities are available. We are staying at the vacation home with the wedding party Friday-Sunday, so depending on how wired everyone is it will either devolve into a silly night of games and likely booze, or we’ll all crash early from getting up at the crack of dawn!
FH and I are both of the week after the wedding, but our kids have school, so we’ll probably just come home and relax.

Not really sure yet...we’re discussing going somewhere not too far that we can take the pup to.

This sounds perfect! You get time to spend with friends and family, then time together with just the two of you once they leave

Thank you for the tip! I have been trying to decide if I should take time off before or after the wedding (or both). Sounds like I will definitely be requesting a few days off after!

For some reason this made me think of a cozy cabin in the woods in the fall- perfect romantic place for a couple and their doggo
