I wanted an idea of how much this particular venue would cost for 60 guests. Is it just or is this absolutely insane?! I guess it just seems really high for the number of guests, I've seen people on here with triple my guest numbers and half the cost but I realize location does have a lot to do with (grr Canada). I guess my next step in the wedding planning process is to win the lottery!

    That sucks!

We had similar problems looking in the GTA. That's why we chose my FH's town he grew up in. I looked at the place and you might want to consider http://www.hotelsone.com/port-carling-hotels-ca/delta-sherwood-inn.html?as=g&aid=7963071638&dsti=242272&dstt=8&label=ggehoeu-bh242272&akw=delta%20sherwood%20inn&asrc=Search&ast=&gclid=COG4yPzW7q8CFYcBQAodeiwWMQ

A friend of mine is getting married there and I am POSITIVE it is not costing near what you are paying. Though it is muskoka not peterbourough area.

Sorry the link above was for the Delta Sherwood, also resort like. But for 60 people you should not be paying $17k.

We are getting married 6 hrs East of Toronto and the cost we figure will be about $8K for 85 people. (now that doesn't include a lot of the things you have listed above) it includes our wedding night stay for just us. Getting the venue the day before to decorate ourselves. simple table cloths, and napkins, dinner dessert, wine $2000 worth of open bar. SOCAN fee. Chairs/tables/ use of the courtyard and AV type equiptment. The way a lot of places get you is to only offer packages. but a lot of the time it is stuff you don't NEED. The thing is costs except food and booze would not change if you had like 250 guests so for a small wedding its too much.

Especially since you can find suff on ebay and at other vendors if you could just get a minimal package at your place.

Wow, I live in one of the most expensive counties in the country and most were not close to that. For 60 people you should be able to do much much cheaper. I would recommend look elsewhere- they try and convince you all that stuff is worth that price, but break it down and it won't be close.

Would it be creepy/inappropriate if I contacted some of the people I know have had weddings there based on online reviews to see how much they spent? lol. I understand the place is mainly for weddings (1/day) and there are only so many days in a year to have one but common! Smiley sad

I was married in Philadelphia (65 guests) and that seems a little high but not absurdly so. And it includes a lot. I would ask about customizing it--who needs the brunch? But price varies a LOT on location.

No- you absolutely should contact people who were married there! I contacted people when I researched my venues! Most people responded quickly and were super helpful. If they are posting reviews they are pretty much signaling they are willing to discuss the places. You might not want to ask specifically how much they spent, but can mention this is what they are charging, were you able to negotiate/was it worth it/would you recommend it. Mention what the venue told you and see what they say. Some people are weird about letting other's know what they paid.

Sounds like what I'm finding for my area.....Although I've found a few that were around 5k... which is still too much for me.

The second package is a basically what we paid for our wedding, but everything lumped together without you guys really having to do any work. IMO thats not that bad of a price. 4k is actually slightly less than a typical wedding around here.
