Welcome bags - necessary or unnecessary expense

Marie, on May 28, 2017 at 7:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I was hoping to get some feedback. Lately I've been seeing a lot of posts about necessary and unnecessary expenses.

How do you all feel about welcome bags. I live in Florida the majority of my guests are coming from Florida aswell, but we do have some from out of state. The ceremony and reception is about four hours away from everyone. I think they're necessary for everyone darling fiancé thinks just for out-of-state guests or none at all.

I'd love your input on the subject.

Totally unnecessary but it's a nice gesture. I'm doing so but not going crazy on them

No one needs them since everyone is 4 hours away. But it is a nice gesture!

Unnecessary expense. I just had this discussion with FH the other day and we decided to save our money.

All or none imo. I think they're a nice touch.

I've only gotten one ever. My sister on the other hand said she's never not gotten one so I guess it just depends on your group.

We are doing them. I wasn't too interested, but FH liked the idea. We are keeping things local as much as possible, so we chose some Virginia made chips, water and a Virginia is for Lovers sticker.

How anyone could argue that they are necessary is beyond me. Like many things discussed in the forums, they are nice sometimes, necessary, never.

Most often I end up sorting all the paper handouts straight into the garbage. It used to be nice to get a local map but most of us have GPS now. The hotel provides water.

The most I would do is a light snack and directions to the nearest coffee shop and pharmacy.

I think they can be nice (we went to a wedding last fall and the welcome bag had bottled water and mini bags of pretzels, which was GREAT when we got back to the hotel drunk after the wedding) but totally, totally unnecessary.

They are unnecessary, but I think generally appreciated by guests.

We have a lot to spend money on before we decide if we have room in the budget for welcome bags, but ideally I would like to have them for oot guests. If we don't have money in the budget we won't be doing them though.

They're definitely not necessary, but they are a nice touch. We are having a destination wedding and are doing welcome bags for our guests, as a way to say thank you for traveling so far to celebrate with us.
