Welcome Bag as a Wedding Guest

Future Mrs. D, on January 15, 2014 at 9:46 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 23

Hi All,

I want to do a welcome bag for our wedding guests staying at the Inn. Just 2 bottles of water maybe some crackers and peanut M & M's with a note from us. As a wedding guest and in your opinion, do you appreciate something like that? My wedding coordinator was trying to talk me out of those, but I think it was because they are a pain for front desk/hotel workers to hand out. "She said no one wants bottles of water and a map of the town," which when I get anywhere a bottle of water is the first thing I look for. After driving 3 hours or flying and driving 2 hours as most all of our guests will, wouldn't it be nice to have a little something to wet your whistle and fuel your tank while getting settled? Any other suggestions of what to put in the bags? That's not considered "junk?"

Thanks ahead of time!

Who does love a beverage and a snack?! I think it's a great idea, and I see it more as a welcoming/thanking them sentiment, not just getting a bottle of water.

I always enjoy welcome bags as a guest, and FH was really excited about doing them for our wedding. I like the ideas you have so far. Depending on how far you want to go, you could always include a bottle of wine, gum / mints, or individual packets of Advil for the next morning.

I've always appreciated it. I like how it shows the extra thought the couple put into their guests. I don't think you need to add a map of the town, but a time line of the wedding day or a list of your favorite restaurants or things to do is always nice. As for food, anything is good really!

I think they're a great idea and as a guest I absolutely appreciate them! I labeled mine by name and the hotel/resort had no problem handing them out to my guests. We had 1 bag per couple and included:

    Mini wine bottle

    Mini liquor bottle

    Small soda can

    Chips

    Granola bars

    Gummy fruit snacks

    Mini water bottles

    Fun wedding straws

    We got tons of compliments!

I always enjoy them but I wouldn't miss them if they were gone. I say do it if it's within your budget!

As an OOT wedding guest, I absolutely appreciate those little touches.

We are doing the same thing -

2 or 4 water bottles (depending on what type of room - 1 king vs 2 queens)

Small bag of snacks - probably pretzels (because I LOVE them...lol)

Travel Sized Tylenols - number depends on room size again (either 2 or 4 packs)

I am also contemplating the door hangers that say "do not distrub we are recovering from K & B's wedding..." not sure where to order those though - Anyone???

Finally we are going to do a handwritten thank you note in or on each back that says thank you for celebrating with us. Enjoy your stay.

I think its a thoughtful touch, if the rooms are already paid for, maybe you can have access to put them in each room before they get there

I think that's a really sweet idea! Maybe add in a small bottle of wine (those mini bottles) or the mini bottles of liquor. A note from you guys and a map sounds like a really great idea too. I'd maybe stay away from the peanut M&Ms and do something without peanuts in case of allergies though. I think if you're willing to do it, and the hotel is ok with it as well, then go for it!

I'm doing them because I always enjoyed receiving them as a guest. I am putting water bottles, snacks, advil, etc. in them. I am also doing the door hangers. @FutureMrsP - I ordered mine on Etsy!

We are doing them for our OOT guests. I've never been to a wedding where they had them but I think they'll be appreciated. I purchased door hangers that say "Please Do Not Disturb, we were up all night partying with the newlyweds Mr. & Mrs."

I'll also put bottled water, snacks, mints, a welcome note, personalized matches and maybe some homemade treats like my famous caramels lol. I was considering doing a pain reliever of some sorts but I keep hearing different opinions on that. I am considering buying a big bottle of Tylenol and Advil and leaving them behind the front desk for my guests along with a couple decks of cards. I'll tell my guests it's there for them to use in the welcome note.

I got my door hanger PDF from etsy. She designed it and sent me the file. I'll print them out on shimmery stock paper. The seller was awesome and very accommodating. I'd highly recommend her. You can personalize the colors also.

As a guest, I love receiving a gift bag when I checkin to a hotel. You have a great list to include so far. Anything edible, maps, an itinerary of the weekend, directions to the venue, coupons for local businesses, hand sanitizer, gum, or mints are some suggestions. I actually have a blog article with some other suggestions if you want to check it out: http://favorite-announcements.com/?p=69

I think they are a great idea and love getting them. We're doing a Philly welcome bag. We're going to have water, soft pretzels, tasty kakes and peanut chews. We're also going to do some mini alcohol bottles from local wineries as well as a door hang.

I've actually had a few people request that I make oreo truffles as our wedding favors, so I may make some of the bags as well.

ALL great suggestions and I will go ahead with them. Also, I just found out that Staples has 50 single dose packs (2 tablets) of Advil you can get for $19.99 with free ship to store. Much better than the travel isle of target! Smiley smile

    Thanks Everyone

FutureMrsP, I designed mine myself. We are including 2 bottles of water, pkgs. of ibuprofen, and two bags of snacks (chips or pretzels) and a door hanger that I designed. I have been an OOT guest at weddings multiple times, but have never received an OOT Welcome Bag. I love the idea and I would love to eventually receive one!

Here's my door hanger by the way. I need to print them still.

We are from Texas and flew to my FH friends wedding in Arkansas, when we arrived to our room there was a basket on our bed. It included an "itinerary" of events in case we wanted to join the family or couple (brunch, rehearsal, etc.), map of the town and surrounding towns, flyers for the winery and other excursions available, map to the ceremony and reception location, 2 bottles of water, 2 sodas, 2 mini shots of vodka, 2 ibuprofen's, 2 toothbrushes/toothpaste/dental floss, 2 twix bars and pack of cheese its. I really appreciated the thought, time and consideration that the couple put into these baskets. And really appreciated the toothbrush after realizing I left mine back in Texas.

I think if you are doing a destination and you have guest from all over this is a nice little gesture and welcoming gift.

@Danielle & Mrs_M to be - LOVE the do not disturb signs! I will definitely be using this idea for our wedding!

As someone who works at a front desk this is my opinion: (warning, it may be harsh)

water and candy is lame. Sorry, just being honest. We have a vending machine. We also have a brochure rack with a TON of local maps and things to do.

The Inn I used to work at gave out free water & candy. Put some thought into it. The best bags I have seen had kleenex, single packs of advil, mini lint rollers, a snack that the bride and groom loved or was local to them (think tortilla chips made from their home town favorite mexican restuarant) in a brown paper bag. and a personal note is always nice with specific directions to the venue. We always have so many canvas tote bags left behind.

Yes, gift bags are a PAIN for the front desk. Yes, I DESPISE them! But I also will be doing them. HOWEVER, ask your hotel if they charge to hand them out. Where I work now we charge $2 to hand them out at check in or $4 to place them in the room.
