Weird to have cake cutting before dinner?

With 26 days to go I can't shut off the wedding brain. I'm now thinking about who is going to cut the cake. I'd rather already have someone designated to do this so I don't have to worry about it. My caterer will cut the cake for as for an additional charge, but the contract says we have to do the cake cutting before dinner in order for them to do it. Is that weird? I honestly would rather just pay them to do it so I don't have to worry about it, but I think it might be weird to walk in have our first dance and go straight to cake cutting before dinner.

I personally think it is weird. When my venue coordinator told me this I told her that I would like things in a certain order and would like the cake cutting after dinner. We have allotted the time in our time-frame. She understood. I am OCD so I like having things in a certain order but I thought it was weird.

@mom; especially if they don't provide the cake, which most caterers don't.

THere is nothing usual about this.

Actually I've been to a ton of weddings where the cake gets cut right away. I thought it was odd at first but seems to be becoming the norm.

So then if we are doing the cake cutting before dinner is the cake just set out and people come up and grab a slice whenever they want then after dinner? I guess that's the part that makes it weird to me because normally cutting the cake signifies it's okay to eat it.

Literally no one but you will remember or care if you do it before dinner. Sounds like a good way to get dinner started anyhow.
