Suggestions on how to lose weight before the wedding?

The lady that fit me in mybdress told me to fast for 2 weeks before the wedding and take a munch of laxatives... 🙄
I started using our total gym but I just started gaining weight because i build muscle like crazy, (VERY easily).
Any suggestions would be appreciated..

Burn more calories than you consume. Weight loss can be broken down to simple math, calories in vs. calories out. I would recommend the MyFitnessPal app to help you track your food.

    Yes to that!!!
Definitely no to 2 week fasting and laxatives 🤦
Fasting could be great but it's not for everyone... Esp not 2 weeks before your wedding ha!Just try to have a balanced diet with caloric deficit and work out. Cut out sugars and alcohol (with cheat days obv). Good luck!!!

How long do you have? If you have a good amount of time, I say try weight watchers. You would need 6-9 months to lose 30 pounds on that plan. I’ve been within 10 pounds of my goal weight (based on how my clothes fit- i haven’t actually weighed myself since spring) but still subscribe because every week or so I track my eating for a day to be sure my habits haven’t gone bad.
I like WW because I am NOT the type to give things up. Me never having a glass of wine and a piece of chocolate again just won’t happen, so I prefer a weight loss/maintenance program that lets me eat what i want and then watch portion sizes/bulk up food with veggies and lean protein.

Oof, fasting sounds like a horrible idea. Leading up to your wedding, you're going to be so swamped with emotions. You don't want to be grumpy and miserable during this time that should be exciting! How long do you have before your wedding? The best time to plan to lose weight is definitely not 2 weeks before the wedding - it's right now! Keep going to the gym. If you don't want to build muscle and just want to lose fat, then balance weight-lifting with cardio. In order to gain muscle you need to intake extra calories, so if you remain in a deficit you'll lose fat without putting on too much muscle. But trust me, gaining muscle takes a lot of time and isn't something you should be too concerned with. If you want to track your calories, I recommend Myfitnesspal. Just be careful not to become obsessed with the numbers - it's bad for your mental health. The key is consistency and discipline. Also, a simple trick is to make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough sleep. If you aren't, that will be detrimental to your progress.

At the end of the day, it's important to remember that your fiance loves you for who you are. When you look at your wedding photos, you may only be seeing your physique, but everyone else will be seeing who you are as a person and the love that you share with you partner. Your physical appearance is only a very small part of that.

I've been body-building for three years, so if you need any gym tips, feel free to ask!

I wouldn't recommend taking her advice! Haha! I cut out soda, desserts & coffee creamer and basically eating out in general. We made all our meals and made an effort to make them healthy. I took HIIT classes twice a week and used the Tone it Up app at home the other 3 weekdays, then walked 3+ miles every weekend. I lost 15 lbs in 6 months.

If you are short on time, South Beach is a healthy way to drop some weight quickly. If you got some time, I second Weight Watchers. You will really get the education and support you need to lose the weight.

Also note, typically the fast you lose it the faster you'll gain it back. Slow and steady is the way to go if you want lasting weight loss.

Fasting and laxatives is dangerous and can lead to dehydration.

Keep going to the gym and watch what you eat. Like others have said, weight loss is about a calorie deficit. My go to in the gym is about half an hour of cardio and a little bit of lifting. Then depending on how much time I have left I will hop on the stair stepper for a while. I also try to keep a fairly consistent diet (easy for me because I am super picky), that way I have a general idea of how much I'm taking in vs. burning.

Thank you! We are 6 months out from the wedding! I'm trying to lose fat but the more I work out the more weight I gain and more my muscles show. I want to lose fat THEN gain muscle/tone. But it just doesnt seem to be working that way for me. This is the back of my dress so I need to lose like at least 15 lbs 😕

I would look into the keto diet. It helps significantly eliminate/control carbs. My husband and I did this combined with intermittent fasting. Also, if you build muscle easily, you should do more cardio than weight lifting.

Like mentioned by pp, it’s all about calories in versus Calories out. To help accomplish that, eat smaller portioned meals, no snacks, drink only water and lots of it. Cut out sugar!! Weights and cardio at least three times a week. You can always try intermittent fasting but keep it minimal at like 16 hours. For instance don’t eat between 7pm till 11am. That seemed to help jumpstart my metabolism but everyone is different. Good luck!

    Wow! I love the lacework!

6 months is plenty of time to lose some weight!

A lot of people think that you can target fat loss (do crunches to get a flatter stomach, do curls to lose weight on your arms, etc), but that's not actually true. Everybody's body is different and everyone has a natural tendency to store their weight in different places. For me it's my thighs, for my friend it's her stomach. In order to lose weight you simply ("simply", it's simple but it's hard) have to maintain a calorie deficit. As I said above, I recommend the app myfitnesspal to track your calories. Your calorie needs will be dependent on your height and activity level, and the app will help you figure all of that out. Then just make a plan and stick with it! Weight lifting is great because you continue to burn calories even after you leave the gym because your body has to repair your muscles, as opposed to cardio where you stop burning calories moments after you stop moving. A combination of both is the best! Once again, make sure you're drinking lots of water and getting adequate sleep.

In terms of maintaining your mental health through it all, try to make sure that losing weight is not the number one thing on your mind. If you work, make sure you're engaged at work, and keep busy outside of work. Dive into a hobby (that doesn't involve food), go for a walk, learn a new skill; engage your mind in every way possible.

I also recommend removing the temptations around you. Self-control is a finite resource, so try to have to use it as little as possible. If you have any tempting food in your house right now, give it away or throw it out, and don't buy any more. I can't tell you how many nights I've wanted ice cream but didn't eat it simply because I didn't have any at home and didn't feel like running out! Also, avoid going out to eat and opt to make your meals at home.

Losing weight is about building a healthier lifestyle, not about following a million-dollar diet fad. The healthiest people I know don't have a list of things they don't eat; they have built day-to-day lives then enable them to be active and eat nutritious food.

    best of luck!

The back of your dress is beautiful! I am just like you, I gain muscle like crazy. I just started using 3-pound weights (I know, so light) and doing tons of reps. It has actually helped me get rid of the fat and then tone. I never thought I could tone out my back and arms, but it has worked (: I also do a lot of walking!

Before my wedding, I lost almost 15 pounds in 2 months. I am usually size 6 or 8 in dresses and 5’9”. The first month I did keto and lost 8 pounds and the second month, I lost the rest. I just ate whole foods, and less. It’s just about calories. Just have smaller meals and stop when you aren’t hungry anymore, so don’t focus on finishing your whole plate. I know that’s something we are all used to. No snacking and take a multi vitamin. I stopped eating meat and stopped eating after 7 pm. I would do pilates for exercises.

Hey Alexis! I’m a registered dietitian and I can say fasting and laxatives is not the way. You will look exhausted and feel like crap on your wedding day if you do that. Weight loss is all about calories in and calories out. You have about 6 months until your big day, average healthy weight loss depending on your current body weight and goal body weight is about a pound a week, so you could probably lose about ~25 pounds if you do a pound a week until your big day. If you give me more info on your height weight age and goal weight I could give you a better idea of calories to lose it.

I second this. Tracking your caloric intake and those you burn is the best way to lose weight. I have always found MyFitnessPal to be extremely helpful and easy to use. I am currently getting back into using it for my wedding.
