Weight Loss in 5 Weeks?

MrsJohansson, on May 16, 2019 at 12:50 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 64

Hi everyone,

I got a brand new size 12 dress heavily discounted (real steal price) but I started as a size 16. Thought it would be easy to lose 2 dress sizes in 3 months. I am 5 1/2 weeks out and starting to freak out a bit..

Mar 16 - May 2Weight Loss in 5 Weeks? 1

I've been heavy lifting 5x a week and doing HIIT/or a workout video daily (e.g. 30 Day Shred, JM app, Fitnessblender) since March, added 1 hr of walking daily since last week. Eating a ketogenic diet, drinking lots of water, losing about 1lb a week regardless of reducing caloric intake and increasing exercise further.

I'm wondering if there are any brides who are working out and getting married in June/July? tips or inspiration?

I think your best bet is to talk to a seamstress about alterations or looking into a new dress entirely.

Talk to a seamstress about alterations. Losing more than a pound a week isn’t really feasible or healthy. The people that do it it’s usually just water weight not real weight.

I agree with Caytly! You’ve been doing amazing on your workout and weigh loss plans! Everyone loses weight a different rates. A healthy rate of weight loss is one to two pounds per week Smiley smile Pushing more than that can be bad for and lead to unhealthy habits.

Talk to your seamstress about changes that can be made to the dress to fit your body Smiley smile depending on the dress and fabric she may even be able to increase the size enough to the other changes are minimal.

Keep up the awesome workout / self are routines!

While getting strong is awesome, I would say if you're trying to get smaller heavy lifting might not be helping that much. You might actually put on bulk from new muscles (which again is great long term, but not the short term goal of fitting into the dress). I would probably try to focus more on cardio if you can. It looks like you've already made great progress! But that is a very small amount of time to finish losing the weight.

I'm not getting married in June or July nor am I working out but I have been losing about 3 lbs per week solely by cutting my calories back. I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app totally free and LOVE IT. I can scan the barcode on everything I eat or drink or type in a restaurant name or ANYTHING that I cook at home and it so far has everything. It's also great because it has a section to track your exercise as well as your weight.

Its been the only thing that has helped me lose weight in 2 years, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

When you start it up it asks you some simple questions:height, weight, goal for how much weight per week you'd like to lose, etc. Then it will calculate what how many calories and all other nutrients you should be taking in per day to reach your goal.

Just make sure your honest about it because I put down my activity level at one thing and so it allowed me more calories, and I wasn't losing anything but then i changed my activity level to a less active one, kept my calories under and the weight started coming off.

    Hopefully this helps!

I also agree, if your lifting, then your muscles will get bigger. Cardio is the way to go. And it can be something small even like walking 30 minutes for 4 days a week.

Also, I'd suggest taking your dress to a seamstress now and asking if there is anything they can suggest. They often have suggestions and helped me get my dress to fit.

Thanks Meghan! You make a really good point about the lifting. The heavy lifting is lower body focused (glutes, quads, hams), I've been sticking to things like push ups, planks, boxing for the upper bodyDo you have any suggestions for cardio?

First of all congrats on your weight loss so far! You look great and have definitely made really good process. I agree with PP to: 1. Up your cardio, that is going to help speed up the weight loss. Not sure if you have access to a gym but if so do the bike, elliptical, treadmill. If you don't have access to a gym, try waling more and incorporating running into it as well. You could also ride a bike outside if you have one. 2. Find a good seamstress. Continue to lose and focus on your health but with only 5 weeks left definitely find a good seamstress that can make any changes to the dress needed to accommodate you and your body. Good luck!

Thanks! Smiley smile I have had MFP for years now but I am trying to adopt a non-tracking/mobile approach for my mental health. I am not always able to input food and exercise or be clued to my devices otherwise. Trying something a bit more sustainable for my lifestyle if that make sense (but many thanks!!). I have been making notes about my intake and I've tried 1300 cals to 1700 cals and I can never seem to lose more than 1lb per week. I am not eating any sugar, fruit or heavy carbs.. just veg, meat and occasional dairy. I'm not really looking to lose more than 2 lbs cause that's not sustainable but I'm feeling a bit frustrated cause I should be losing more toward 1.5lbs per week but it stays at 1lb haha. I am active for 7-8 hrs each week. Guess I just need to keep going and hope for the best. Thanks again

If you are working out that hard, you might actually not be eating enough calories! I know it sounds backwards... I would say make sure you are getting at least 1200 calories/day, 1500 might even be better. I would also up the cardio. My plan was to up the cardio 20 min every day every 3 months. I just bumped it to 60 minutes a couple weeks ago and will bump it one more time come August.

Thank you, this is really helpful as well! Smiley smile There is a gym down the street.. I might check it out again, the wedding is a little expensive for us so we've cut out all the extras. I have a bike though, thanks the idea!!

Haha I have heard of this before so it makes sense. I tried increasing cals as well but unsure if it really had an effect or not. Just end up at the same 1lb loss. I've come to accept that I will only lose 1lb per week and to focus more on how my clothes are fitting. My clothes feel even looser since taking the right pic but I think the about increasing cardio

Focus on measurements, not weight. You are building a lot of muscle. Muscle weighs more than body fat, so the scale isn't going to move much. You are replacing fat with muscle.

Keep going! You will keep slimming down.

Interview seamstresses and ask what they can do to fix the dress for you. Some are more skilled than others. Many are like magicians with what they can do!

    Hello,
im sorry that your not seeing the progress you want. The weight loss struggle is so
real. Ask your seamstress to put in a corset back that should fix you issue and if you hit your goal awesom if not you’ll still
be beautiful and not stressed out. You know
stress doesn’t help weight loss either 😞 Good luck

Do NOT give up your lifting! Sure you will burn more calories in a cardio session than weightlifting but the more muscle you have the more calories you burn throughout the day. Here is a decent article that states the benefits. https://www.bodybuilding.com/content/fat-loss-training-wars.html. The whole you’re gonna get bulky thing is complete nonsense as well. Keep lifting those weights! Keep up your hard work and good luck to you!
