Hi there! We have 2 very close family members who are overweight (400lb +) including FH's brother. Our ceremony is outside and the venue uses white wooden chairs with a max capacity of 400 lbs. We don't want to single anyone out and want to ensure their safety and comfort. We're Considering adding banquet chairs with white cover (no sash) on both sides of the front row, and have both members sit in these reserved seats. This is a sensitive topic and a genuine concern for us. My FH feels that his brother would rather stand up than sit in a chair that could possibly not hold him. We want to be inconspicuous and have adequate seating for them. Any advice out there?

@TuRhonda what about having the same chairs for everyone? That way it still looks uniformed and then no one feels like they're being singled out.

Just imagine how obvious that would look to have skinny people everywhere and the whole front row just so happens to consist of fat people. That would be wrong on so many levels

ETA just read your update. If you're going to have them in the front anyways it's ok. As long as you have all your family (including skinnies) in the front so it doesn't look obvious lol

OMG! OP says that some VIPs are overweight. They will be sitting front row anyways. She wants the Whole front row to have sturdier chair so that it does not call attention to the two people that might break the flimsier chairs!

OP, go for it! I have seen the flimsy chairs that are used for some weddings and i chose not to use them at all because of the bigger people in my guest list!

@TuRhonda- no worries glad we got it cleared up. You'll get some people who don't read the update and stuff but don't worry about it. I was literally laughing out loud dying for an update at how absurd it seemed. Glad I misunderstood Smiley laugh

@MrsCK - I was actually hoping to change all the chairs, but the venue only allows wooden chairs on the lawn. They will accommodate the first row with banquet chairs on both sides per our request, but not the entire lawn.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I'm definitely mindful of fully explaining myself in the threads moving forward. Again, I hope I didn't offend anyone. Blessings to all!!

As others have said, I think it is completely fine to have the first row chairs different and label them the "VIP Section." You are being a thoughtful host by looking out for the well fare of your guests!

@TuRhonda ugh that sucks Smiley sad I think it will be perfectly fine with just the front row and the rest wooden chairs though.

@TuRhonda - this is something I never even considered. My dad is over the 300lb mark and now I am thinking about chair comfort and spacing. You're very thoughtful and that's a good solution you've come up with.

@TuRhonda I just want to applaud you on being an exceptional human being for considering the comfort and dignity of your guests! I agree that having the banquet chairs for the front rows and the wooden chairs for the rest is an excellent idea :-)

Nobody here was offended, just sarcastic Smiley smile And while you think you came off badly, just know there have been other posters who actually believe that all the guests need to look uniform for their pretty princess day (the girl who wanted all her bridesmaids to wear dark hair so she could be the only sparkling blonde comes to mind). What you have planned sounds fine...now that we know you meant uniform chairs, not hiding non-uniform guests Smiley winking

I think if the front row is done in the banquet chairs and the rest are the others it would look fine. Now that you've cleared things up, it's wonderful you're mindful of some VIP guests limitations.

Thanks for the update. I was really confused! I think it would be a good idea to do the entire front row in banquet chairs. I think one chair on each side will definitely be drawing attention.

Not sure if this will help, but I was at a wedding where the front row had a wooden bench and the rest were wooden chairs. Not sure what the max weight is on a bench though. So thoughtful for thinking of this ahead of time!

All of you guys that responded are rude! What she is saying is she will upgrade the first 2 rows of seats with the banquet chairs no one would know they would just assume it was because they are reserved!
