Weekday Wedding

What do you guys think about a weekday wedding? We are thinking about getting married on a Wednesday evening with close family and friends and then the following year having our larger reception with extended guests on a Thursday. I hear you can get cheaper venues during weekday weddings.

Monday wedding, here. FH was set on Halloween and I had no desire to wait until 2020. Way, way more people are coming than expected. (It's kind of a DW though. Everyone has already booked rooms and gotten the time off, so I'm not expecting lots of last minute cancellations.)

Ours is pretty much a destination because of the drive, and I knew that everyone I had ever met would not come. However, we didn't invite that many people. Tops out at just under 50, and most of them are close friends and family. Who are all expecting to be there, taking the day off work, saving vacation days, etc.

You need to able to accept a greater number of declines.

I wouldn't be happy about a weekday wedding.

With a weekday wedding you will have more declines. It also forces people to take day(s) off from work. If you're going to do it on a weekday, pick a Friday, that way they have the weekend to recover and travel back home.

I had a Thursday wedding last week. No noticeable declines and no real lateness. Maybe it was the bacon station....

I was just recently at a Wednesday wedding. They were Russian/Jewish and apparently that's very common for them! There were over 500 people there and although it wasn't ideal FH and I were able to take off Thursday since we knew the wedding was going to run late. I'm sure a lot of people won't be able to make it, but if you are having a small ceremony with your closest family and friends and they are able to take off, then go for it.

My sister was married on a Wednesday in St. Lucia. She invited 100 ppl and 78 attended. I think if the people you invite want to be there, and they can, they will. Our family and friends all flew out of NYC. It was all good!

I am having a weekday (Thursday) wedding later this month. I have found that the people who care about us the most are coming despite the day of the week. I still have a guest list of 60 so I'm happy with my decision. It saves us all around. Venue half the cost and less people. Win Win in my book.

You get lots of discounts for doing it during the week. And if that's the date you want I see no issue with it. Hence Wednesday lol. Our Venue was cheaper, our photographers offered an off season price, and the DJ even gave us several discounts.

I would probably not come to a weekday wedding. If I did go, I would have to leave early because of work the next day. Unless you were a SUPER close friend or even a SUPER close family member, no way am I taking work off to go to a wedding, even if it's the next day.

Just prepare for a lot of possible declines.

Sunday wedding here. I know it's not a weekday but I had to respond to the comment @leelee made. And no, it's not a holiday weekend.

We are doing a Friday wedding. I work at a casino so does Fh and half the bridal party. Trying to get off a Friday and Saturday would not happen for everyone. I was new to planning and super excited that the venue was cheaper. Happy surprise! Works better for our out of town guests as well. We are also having a brunch to say good bye on Saturday.

I don't think Thursday or Wednesday weddings have taken off in my area, so I can only speak from my experience and say I'd be pretty confused about it and if I wasn't close/related, might not be so excited about travel (I'd go, though, because yay weddings and dancing and cake. I'll go to anyone's wedding, IDGAF). But you also said a weekday wedding and then *another* weekday reception a year later, for a larger crowd, and that gives me a bad feeling - now I have to take time off from work to celebrate your wedding that happened a year ago? That's a little too far over the line of inconvenience for me.

I recently attended a Thursday evening wedding. It wasn't that big of a deal. However, most people left very early.

There's this thought; not everyone has a M-F work schedule. Those who work medical field, service jobs, retail, emergency, law enforcement, and many other jobs have to take a day off or vacation time for Saturday weddings just as they would a weekday.

Last year when I was a direct support staff, I had 3 Saturday weddings (March, July, and Sept.). I had to take 4 vacation days (I was in the BP in one and had to take a Friday for RD).

I actually got spoken to about requesting so many Saturdays off by my shitty supervisor. It was the norm to take your vacation time ONE week Sun-Sat and they had a hard time finding coverage for so many Saturdays for me (no one wants to cover a Saturday). I almost didn't get my request approved for my father's wedding in September out of spite.

It would have been better for me had fewer weddings been on Saturdays.

(I thank god every day I don't work at that awful place anymore) eta grammar

I've performed many weekday ceremonies -

Fact is, anyone who cares about you will come, no matter what day it's on

    You do you!
