Wedgewood Weddings - Refund do to Covid-19?

Jacqueline, on May 22, 2020 at 9:06 PM Posted in California Planning 1 15
Hello, my question for brides is, has anyone who contracted with WedgeWood Weddings been able to get a refund? We contracted with Wedwood Weddings in Ca for our wedding which is scheduled for 6/20/2020 but as of today, restrictions have not been lifted in our county. Our venue was willing to re-schedule but up until recently had said no refunds. I'm trying to understand all my options, from our POV, wedgewood cannot meet the terms and conditions of our contracts so they should give us a full refund...thoughts/feedback?

You need to look at at your contract. The section that covers this is usually called Force Majeure, but it may go by other titles. On my contract it's called Excused Non-Performance. This section basically covers what happens when the venue can't fulfill its obligations due to "acts of nature" or "acts of God." You should also look at what your contract says about the client cancelling or postponing. If you're trying to cancel/postpone before the venue has decided if they can still accommodate your wedding date, you may be subject to no refund or fees. I hope that's not the case. I definitely think venues should give grace during this time.

Hi, I was wondering if you could give us an update. My fiancé and are so excited for our wedding at The Orchard through Wedgewood, but we’re concerned because our contract and their website say they are not rescheduling weddings unless they have to. (We signed our contract before COVID.) We are concerned that we’ll be forced to have our March 2021 wedding, in an unhealthy environment. If things are like they are now, we wouldn’t feel comfortable having a wedding of 70 people even if it is technically allowed by the state. TIA!

Hi! We’re booked with The Orchard. They told us they can’t guarantee we would be able to reschedule right now.

So your date has pasted and you were not able to have your wedding, yet they’re not letting you reschedule? Are they giving you the option of a refund?

What was the outcome of your situation? My daughter is having a similary issue with Wedgewood in NH. They are being completely unreasonable and it's so upsetting during this difficult time.

    Hi Laurie,

My fiance and I left our contract. It cost us about 4k to postpone our traditional wedding, but it was worth not having to deal with Wedgewood's current customer service and not having to ask our loved ones to travel at this time! We'll be having a civil ceremony on a private beach while we "quarantine" in the US Virgin Islands in March, and we'll be planning our traditional wedding for our friends and family once we're vaccinated. I've already found a venue that offers everything Wedgewood offers in a nicer estate for around the same price! So, hope isn't lost for your daughter. Good luck!

    Has anyone sought legal representation?

My wedding was also postponed from April 2020 to May 2021. I don’t think it will be safe for the majority of folks to travel at that time.

My fiance and I are scheduled to have our wedding in May 2021 and we are trying to bring them to a small claims court right now. Our lawyer sent them a demand letter and we haven't heard back from them.

Hoping this works! The process is taking a while...

Has anyone got any news? We rescheduled from August 2020 to April 2021. All of our family members are out of state and can't travel because of various health restrictions - and the Wedgewood Retreat won't even reschedule with us or respond.

    Hi Kris,

I was wondering if you had any progress in the small claims court? We also cancelled our wedding at Granite Rose and did not receive any refund. We are really upset about their lack of care. Hoping you have some positive news to share and we can follow your path! Thank you!

    Hi Kris,

Have you had any success with the small claims court? The venue flat out ignored me months before my scheduled wedding date.

I too am hoping to hear an update from anyone that has been able to make any progress with getting their money back. Our wedding was canceled for June 6, 2020 and since then we ended up getting married in quarantine and I just had our baby three weeks ago. We are no longer having this wedding but Wedgewood Granite Rose (NH) will not refund us any of our 10,000 paid so far, neither will the florist or our videographer etc. At this point I’m wondering if we should start a thread where we offer to transfer our deposits to other couples for half price or something just to recoup some of the costs since this company seems to be large and corporate enough to get away with this unscathed. I worry about lawyering up as our contract stated that if we lose in court we are responsible for Wedgewood’s legal fees.

    Hi

I was reading your post, instead of transferring you deposit, why not hold a year or three year anniversary party at your original venue location. Wedgewood is known for the wedding but you can quickly renew vows and have big part and use that hard earned money they get for free if you don’t use it.

We have an issue with Wedgewood, feeling forced to hold our wedding as they will not allow us to reschedule for our requested date of 10/1/22 so that we don’t put people’s health at risk along* with the companies employees who would be working* the event. So we will hold our event at the Carlsbad location on 10/1/21 but my hubby and I have some great tricks up our sleeve and we’re one step up on the issue, the effects of us being disappointed by the company will carry out and hurt the company long after our event. There is something to be said about a Bride scorned. I’m much older than most and I have the endurance to play with the company, but for you and your situation I would request in writhing your 10k be transferred to a future date and that you will be in touch about making* that happen.
