Wedflix- has anyone used this?

Mrs. W, on January 10, 2016 at 7:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

FH have been debating going with getting a go pro or using a service that rents you cameras and puts together a wedding video for you afterwards. Has anyone used Wedflik before for their wedding? What was your experience? Was it worth it?

I'm not a fan of anything that makes your guests work at your wedding. It's one thing when guests take photos at your wedding on their own, without prompting, and share them with you, but asking them to videotape means they have to take time away from enjoying the reception (which is for THEM) to videotape for you.

I heard about go pro usage for the first time today from my photographer. A bride had it in her bouquet and then gave it to her maid of honor to record the wedding. I thought it was a cool idea. He did say he had to photoshop it out in every picture though. So if you go that route make sure a photographer can do that. Ours did an amazing job and now it's something we are considering.

I know someone who used WedPics before... I almost considered using them until I realized that it was almost as expensive as our videographer. They tell you it's only $500 to rent the cameras but that is just for the rental and nothing else. It's an additional $1000 if you want an edited trailer. Not sure if this helps, never heard of wedflix.

I looked into three different companies. I was advised in a thread not to use any of them. (Sorry, I'm on my phone & can't pull it up now.). I decided to just have my mom's SO use my video camera to capture the ceremony, first dance, toasts, & cake cutting. That's all I really want. He's done weddings before, so I trust him (he's as OCD as I am).

I was probably the person who advised Kimi not to go with a site like this. I haven't used one, but I'm a professional tv editor and understand the specs that companies like this put on their websites. Here are a few problems with them.

    1) It makes your guest work during the wedding.

    2) Chances are they will send you ipod touches (or something similar) as they cameras to have your guests film with. Most guest carry equivalent cameras in their pockets all the time aka their phones. To me it's a waste of money to provide guest with something they already have in their pockets.

    3) Your guests are too busy paying attention to the action. They will miss things and you will be disappointed.

    4) They will charge you an arm and a leg for editing as Miranda said. Editing is the main reason that videographers are expensive. That is what takes the most time and they charge you for that separately.

My advice, hire a professional videographer. If that is out of your budget, call your local film school and see if you can get a student to film. A student won't be as good as a professional by any means, but they will do a lot better than your guests and probably cost around the same as these websites to just film the wedding. Then for your anniversary find a professional to edit it.
