Wedding with less than 50 guests possible for end of August 2020?

Chris, on May 14, 2020 at 7:10 PM Posted in Florida Planning 0 11
With my state (Florida) in phase 1, would you say there’s a chance my wedding of less than 50 guests be good to go in Miami? My wedding is August 29th and I’m keeping hope that by that point we could be in at least phase 2... maybe even phase 3. What do you guys think?

I think it’s possible but really the next 2-4 weeks will be very important to see the actual effect of the reopening. If cases stay low i think you might be able to have your wedding. Keep your hopes up!!

I would guess you’d be able to have a gathering of 50 by end of August. I agree that the next several weeks are crucial to make sure things are going well, but I would be very hopeful if I were you! Wishing you the best!

Thanks for the reassurance! Phase 2 in my state allows for gatherings of less than 50 so if we are in at least that phase I have hope! Praying the numbers keep going down! I have more than 3 months and if there is a second wave I feel my date should be protected by it at the very end of the summer.

I did this. I'm planning for 5 and only or household. Basically, us and our children. That's it. For September in Missouri.

I hate to be the downer, here, but I honestly think FL is going to get shut down again. I'd pay closest attention to Disney - if they won't open, or open with very strict guidelines, I'd be concerned. I've noticed that Disney Springs *third party* businesses are allowed to open, but Disney-owned businesses are *not*.

Please keep in mind that I live in NJ, literally within a 10 minute subway ride to NYC, so I'm coming from the position of a hot spot.

We're only just *thinking* about opening back up, and we actually are trending downward. FL is not, which is really concerning, because it's an exponential growth kind of thing.

You could get lucky, but I'd have a Plan B, and maybe a Plan C.

I don’t see how Disney reopening compares to a gathering of 50. Disney is a much larger operation.

What are your guidelines in terms of gatherings for the different phases? Do you need to get to phase 2 or 3 for 50 guests? Also would you consider scaling down your guest list if you had to?

For our state gatherings of 50 are allowed in Phase 2. Miami is moving into Phase 1 on Monday. I think what I’ll do is keep an eye on how things are at the end of June which is when we plan to mail out our invites. Our wedding was originally supposed to happen on May 2nd so our guests are already aware of the new date. Our wedding was small to begin with before covid so we are fine with less than 50 people.

I would be cautiously optimistic for the next few weeks. If there's another big spike, it may not be back under control by the end of August. Maybe reach out to your vendors and see what they're thinking? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and hopefully you keep going down!

I wouldn't put too much pressure on comparing to Disney though - they have many more legal and profit ramifications to think about if they open too early. That's on a very different playing field than a wedding with less than 50 people.

They are doing Phase 2 now, but palm county, broward and Miami will stay in phase 1 for right now.
