I don't know how some of you are going to take this. I'm was laying low for a while, because I was just flat out devistated. Our wedding was, well.....at least we are married; that is all I have to say. A tornado came through a destroyed so much it was horrible, barely any people shown up and they felt bad about it; but there homes where either gone or in really bad shape. We couldn't get the pictures we wanted because....well....people were complaining how cold it was. Our food was nothing that we wanted and it was not good. My parents were not happy about it! It's really bad when you pay $300 for a wedding cake and you have to fix it yourself. And our D.J. left early because my mother-in-law made him mad. So, I'm thinking about a small vowel renewal. When would be the best time for it?

Aww that is awful I have nightmares about stuff like that happening. I'd say give it some time and maybe do a nice vow renewal in a couple of years. I'm sorry your wedding didn't turned out like you planned. If that happened to me I would go off with my husband alone and just "elope" as a vow renewal at a romantic private getaway and make it really just about the two of us.

I'm so sorry you are going through this! We had some very obvious issues at our wedding, and I woke up during our honeymoon crying thinking about them, so I can sort of relate, although I'm not trying to compare them to the serious nature of a tornado. I really ended up liking our pictures even though they weren't what we planned (I just got them last week), and that really helped me to come to terms with our day.

Since you had to work for two years to save up, it sounds like financially, a re-do cannot happen immediately. If this is the case, re-assess at your one year anniversary. If you both look back on your wedding day and still feel loss primarily, then maybe you can start thinking about trying to do a vow renewal including some of the people who were unable to come.

In the meantime, I'd go over your contracts with a fine-toothed comb and see what money you can get back. Good luck!

How does your husband feel about it? The whole point of a wedding is to be married. You accomplished that part of it. Like someone else said, it may be too fresh for you to make a logical decision right now. Maybe instead of a huge vow renewal, you could go somewhere fabulous for your one year anniversary and have a small yet meaningful ceremony while on your trip. Invite a few friends and family if you want, but don't stress over the details. I'm so sorry this happened to you. You could always look at the positive... if your marriage survived that storm, you can survive anything! Smiley smile

Im so sorry and reading your story made my heart hurt for you. I feel terrible you worked so hard and for it to ended up happening the way it did. If you can have a redo I say go for it. I really hope you get a second chance and it be the way you envisioned it. Hoping it works out and you feel better!

When I first got here, there was a woman who had a terrible wedding, and decided to have a redo. The redo was terrible, too. Last I saw, she was contemplating whether to have yet another redo.

People who already tried to get to your wedding, but couldn't because their homes were destroyed, are not likely to look forward to a redo. People who misbehaved at your wedding are not likely to be better behaved next time. If you really want a redo, I'd suggest having it with just the two of you. Or, as others have suggested, just enjoy being married and realize that this will be one heck of a story to tell your grandchildren.

I'm sorry for the loss of your dream wedding. I don't know what is the right answer, or even if there is one. I feel like if it were me I would give my hubby and I time to process what was good about our wedding (becoming Mrs. ...), the people who were able to make it during a natural disaster, etc. I would also give us time to grieve everything that did not make us happy about it, and then if we decided to do a vow renewal at a later date we would do it. But I do feel like with all the time, money, and planning we put in to the wedding I would not do it immediately, but pick an anniversary to do it on. It may or may not be on our wedding anniversary, but of our first date, or the date we got engaged or something.I truly don't feel that a quick vow renewal will make it feel like a re-do, but a band aid. If you do it too quick you may not enjoy it as much as you should comparing it to what you wanted the first time. I'm so sorry that it wasn't everything you dreamed and hoped for,

Though I see people's point that having a re-do may not guarantee that the next one will go well, I see no reason not to do it.

particularly if you would feel good about having someone low key like at a park or at someone's house. it doesn't have to be pricey to be beautiful and fun.

I hope you decided to do a re-do, but I do hope that you are able to get somewhere with the vendors that let you down.

    good luck!

Well I have been thinking about it. My husband said sure in a few years; but I am going to be graduating from college in about a year and a half. He said I can plan myself a really nice graduation party. It is going to help with the small amount of people and our money will go further.

The money was not the huge issue, it was just me working full-time, going to school full-time, and planning. He said let's just wait a little bit and we will see about a vow renewal. I guess I can look at it this way: We got married during one hell of a storm and we made it through.

There you go, Christine! You've got a great husband who is able to listen, empathize, and offer reasonable suggestions. I remember one episode of "Four Weddings" that was filmed in the northeast. One couple was planning on a beautiful, late fall wedding at the end of October. That happened to be the weekend when a freak snowstorm devastated the area. Several states were without power for days, trees were down...it was a mess (I live in the northeast, and we were seriously affected). This couple still had their wedding in a lovely venue, and during the ceremony they relied on tons of candles for light and heat. Many of the guests didn't show up because the roads were impassable. The venue stepped up, found some generators, removed some tables, got the food going, gave her free upgrades, and a beautiful wedding happened. It wasn't the bride's dream wedding according to plan, but in any social gathering, they will definitely have the most interesting wedding story to tell.

Oh I'm so sorry! How disappointing Smiley sad I agree with a previous comment. Throw a huge anniversary party. Even note in the invitations. "Wedding do over! Etc. Since a lot of you couldn't make it, etc. Take two!" Good luck. I'm sure whatever you do it will be much better.
