Wedding Venue Burnt Down

on June 3, 2019 at 8:53 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
My wedding venue for December 14th burnt down last night and I JUST sent out save the dates. Does anyone know how to word a formal letter requesting money back? I sent them $4,000 so far and $7,000 was due June 14th (which I luckily didn’t send). I’m FREAKING OUT.

Before asking for your money back, I'd get in contact with the venue to find out what their plan is. Is it burned to the ground or does it just have damage that might be repaired in the next couple of months?

Ugh. I'm so sorry! I would still try to contact them there by phone first as they may already have a plan in place to start refunding deposits. If you do not get an answer then then I'd go ahead and send then a letter. I wouldn't worry about the formality of it, just stating that due to the unfortunate circumstances you are requesting a refund of your deposit in order to find a new venue.

Here's a little something to lift your spirits... My friend lost her venue years ago to Sandy out in NJ. Other venues in the area were amazing and she wound up keeping her date at a venue even more beautiful than her original one, and they honored her pricing from the destroyed venue even though the new venue was more expensive!

I would just call them first. If they don't already have a plan in place for refunds, they should soon.

I agree with PP, try calling first. Maybe give it a couple of days for them to start to get things sorted. See what they offer to fix the situation. Do they have a second venue you can use? Do they have a venue they can refer you too? Maybe they’ll just give the deposit back (I can’t see them trying to keep it).
I know I mentioned this concern with my venue before signing the contract and the lady i worked with assured me many times that shouldmthis happen they would be more than willing to work with me to find a new venue/acceptable solution.
Good luck, try not the stress.

I just wanted to say I'm sorry! I remember your posts when you were deciding on your venue and how much went into you choice of what you saw as the perfect venue for you...this has to be heartbreaking. Hopefully, you'll find something you like even better. Good luck! Smiley heart

They may go bankrupt and you may be out of luck. Send a letter demanding money back, but I would not count it, so glad you did not send in other money. I would talk to an attorney and consider filing lien. If they have insurance, you want a piece of it.

This is crazy! The same thing happened to me. Our venue had insurance so it took awhile to get our money back but we just called them as soon as we heard and asked what their plan was.

They actually ended up in bankruptcy and changed their name it was soo stressful! Our date was in April and by the time we starting looking for a new venue we had to change the date to Aug! (soo hot) but the new venue was great about working with us knowing that we had alot of our venue money tied up in the other spot!

I know this is hard! Just breath and take it a day at a time! And dont be afraid to stand up for yourself!

Oh no, I'm so sorry! Smiley surprise I would call to discuss and refund and keep on them because insurance is a mother***! Another option would be to ask if they can help place you at a comparable venue. In the meantime see if you can dispute with your bank to see if you can get your money back that way.
