Wedding Ring, Wearing Before Marriage: Traditions...Superstitions? =)

Jaskra, on September 11, 2017 at 11:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 14

So my fiancé and I finally went out and bought his wedding band this weekend. He put it on as soon as we got in the car and has been wearing it since. He went in the office today and every lady in the office said, "It's bad luck to wear that before you're married!"

I've heard of the bad luck to see each other before the ceremony and seeing the dress.

(Both of which we've done/plan to do lol!)

So here's my question to you out of curiosity and interest.

Is it bad luck for the woman to wear a wedding band prior to the wedding (my engagement ring is my wedding band for example)?

Do you believe in these superstitions/traditions?

What other superstitions/traditions have you heard of?

What are you planning to do/did you do? =)

I don't believe in that. I have wore my band out a couple times.. whoops. But I put it in the box and my FH hide it so I don't wear it anymore. It just looks so beautiful with it on!

Superstitions and traditions don't make the marriage.

The ring I wear now serves as both my engagement ring and wedding band. I feel luckier every day!

We are both guilty of wearing our wedding rings around the house, but we do enforce a strict not-outside rule. No reason, really, but just so we're actually married the first time anyone else sees them on us.

Plus, FH already got a small scuff on his when he smacked his hand off something. *sigh*

I don't believe in the traditions but we aren't wearing our bands just yet. I am not letting FH see the dress but that is more because I like the element of surprise.

I think traditions and superstitions like that are fun. I don't believe that they actually bring bad or good luck. But I think it builds the excitement and anticipation of when you finally do get to wear wedding bands, or when he gets to see you in your dress. Waiting just makes things more special in my opinion but I totally see why people would want to wear wedding bands early.

My engagement ring is so perfect I can not imagine adding another band to it. I am thinking if I do it will be our anniversaries, not our wedding. so I have been wearing my "wedding band" since I was engaged. I feel so empty without it! I wanna show it to everyone!!! I know that probably doesn't help. if we were doing wedding bands I wouldn't be worried about superstitious implications, I would be afraid to loose it!!

I "proposed" to him with it the night it came in because he was having a shit day (we had to euthanize his dog on his birthday.) It was worth it seeing him smile on such an awful day.

I don't believe in those kinds of superstitions....

I have one ring and I have been wearing it since I got engaged. So has my FW. I personally hate the concept of two rings for myself.

We try ours on from time to time but only for a few minutes at a time. I think its a bit odd to actually wear them out but to each their own! As far as superstitions go clearly I'm the wrong person to comment since I'm getting married on Friday the 13th.

We tried them on the day they came in and they've been tucked away in the box since. I wasn't even allowed to take a picture of them, so for now I just have a picture of the outside box, but after FH posted that our rings were in, I posted a picture of the box with a count down to the reveal day. Lol

I'm extremely superstitious in general. Like even with Sports. I won't wear a particular jersey to games because our team lost the time I did.

I never tried on an engagement ring for fun

I never asked to try on a friend's engagement ring

A little old Italian lady at an old job once told me that if your grandparents had a long and happy marriage, if you use or at least try on their bands after you get engaged it's supposed to bring good luck to your marriage

I saved my bridesmaid flowers from a wedding I was in for a week to bring the bride and groom good luck

Just things like that... so I think it's to each their own

Don't care, my FH was so proud to wear a ring all this time, it makes me feel nice to see it on him to, y'all do you.

Never heard of that and don't care. My engagement ring is going to be my wedding band because it's amazing. Marriages aren't determined by luck, just the actual actions and energy of the two people involved. If FH wants to wear his ring he should go for it.

I’m supposed to get married May 30th but this virus screwed everything up so I told my fiancé we should just wear them on the day we were supposed to get married
