Wedding Related Postage Stamps...

Mrs. Del Grosso, on July 18, 2012 at 2:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

So I'm trying to get a count of how many stamps I would need for STD's, invitations, RSVP's, and then maybe bridal shower, and bachelorette party along with thank yous'. I have about a 200 count guest list. I've came to figure out that if I mail all of the items I listed I'll need about 400 stamps (maybe more) and it came out to $180 total (I priced this on the united postal service website) this is for wedding related designed stamps with the "forever" cost included. I plan on going through my list again tonight to see how many I would be able to hand deliver and how many I would have to mail out.

So my question is did any of you use wedding design related stamps. I would love to use these but I'm really not trying to pay $180. I have about 12 co-workers I am inviting and then their S/O or date as well. I was thinking about hand delivering these but unsure due to any conflicts that might happen. I included a picture of the stamp I want.

Advice ladies?!

I love these stamps and ettiquete really is to mail wedding info. You would probably run into problems with uninvited coworkers if you hand deliver to those coworkers invited.

Yeah that's what I figured about the co-worker issue. I wish I had a idc type of attitude about this type of situation but I'm not great with conflict so everything is better left mailed out lol

I used those stamps as well as the wedding cake stamps I even had to pay .63 for each stamp due to weight. Then all thank you notes from shower and wedding and it is super expensive. They also have really nice red love stamps. All are forever stamps

Why do I get the impression from your post that you think wedding stamps are more expensive than other stamps? A stamp is a stamp. Whether or not you get wedding related ones or american flags, it is still going to cost the same amount. (Unless you are like me and get suckered into buying Endangered Tiger stamps for your thank you cards and spend 55 cents instead of 45 cents per stamp because you can't say "No, I don't want to help save the tigers" Smiley tongue)

While I love getting actual stuff in the mail, I don't think anyone can fault anyone nowadays for trying to save some money by handing them out in person. Stamps are expensive and when you have that many guests, every penny counts. Maybe don't buy all 400 stamps yet, just enough to get you through STDs, and maybe bridal shower thank you's. Hold off on buying invitation stamps until you know how much your invites weigh and if you need extra postage (ie a 65 cent stamp instead of a 45).

One mistake I made was counting guests instead of households - DUH! - so I used way less stamps than I thought. Also keep in mind you will only send Thank You's to attendees and those who sent gifts, so you might want to wait and see what that number is before you plan for stamps. The Forever/ 0.45 stamp is standard regardless of the design you choose, or are thinking of creating personalized stamps?

Yeah, I bought that same stamp too. It cost the same as any other stamp you would buy anywhere else. Stamps are stamps...unless you're customizing them. THEN the costs add up...the only way to save on postage is to hand-deliver some things...

I did get wedding stamps they are the wedding cake one's I wasn't to fond of them. I just mailed some of the STD's out today because our wedding is on a Holiday weekend and we have OOT guest too.

I just got 70 stamps for now but because I added hemp thread & a love pendant It was .65 to mail each one.

As for coworkers I planned on hand delivering the STD & Invite to them I will just give it to them in private and tell them I only invited a few people from the office so to keep it on the DL

I agree with Mrs. Lemmon. FSIL pre-purchased stamps when ordering her invitations, then guess what, the price of stamps went up. So, not only did they have to purchase additional postage, they had to affix them to the envelopes with the pre-printed label (I did not notice it, but she was stressed about it). Also, I recommend bringing a completed invitiation into your local post office for weight and measurement. And remember, a square envelope automatically adds .20 cents.

Thanks for the help ladies. I probably will just stick to buying the std stamps first. I just didn't feel like going back an forth to the post office buying them. (lazy moment lol) the way some of my coworkers made it sound is a wedding stamp is more than a regular liberty bell stamp and what not. So that part is my fault. Thanks for the tips ladies!! Smiley smile

Oh, I love that stamp! I think maybe you're talking about forever stamps vs non? I was thinking the same thing...I want the forever stamps incase postage goes up (because our invites won't go out until next July or so).

Personally, my plan is to hand deliver some of them (I'm going to hand deliver to the people in my department, and probably some others that I don't feel really "need" to be mailed).

I hand delivered to his family because they are so big...and I mailed out all of the out of state family. I think I made about 5 trips to the post office by the time I was finished and i think I spent about 40 or 50 dollars in stamps. Not bad for a days work. The wedding stamps I used was .45 a piece.

I am hand delivering just a small chunk of our invitations (to close family and the wedding party) other wise it will cost be 1.45 to mail each one (stupid ribbon), so even just the ones I have been able to hand deliver cut the cost down by $31. I have still just stuck them into people mailboxes for the people that live in town (I live in a very small town, so wasting gas wasn't an issue)

You're sort of stuck when it comes to postage -- it is the price it is, and you can't really get around it. (It doesn't cost any extra to get pretty ones like those than regular ones, though.) Figure four stamps per invite: One for the invite, one for the RSVP card, one for their thank-you note and one for a thank-you note after your shower.

One caveat: Get your invitations weighed before you buy stamps, 'cause it's totally possible that you'll need 65-cent stamps to mail them out. (I didn't, but a lot of people do.)

Have you considered postcards and therefore postcard stamps for the STD's? That's what we did. I was worried since there is no return address on a postcard, and there were a few people who didn't get them, but it worked out since you send the invites to the same address and then call if you don't get a response.

You can also get thank you notes in postcard form.

One more thing, I agree that it is a good idea to take one of your finished invites to the post office when buying stamps, and you may not want to say that it is a wedding invite. My husband bought ours and he said they didn't even weigh it. They just told him that there is a stamp that they have to cover most wedding invites (it looked a lot like the one you posted) that is 65 cents and sold him those. If I had gone, I would have insisted that they still weigh it, but since we did pocket invites and they are the heaviest invites I have seen, I was fine with that. Bottom line, you may not need a 65 cent stamp.

YOu've also gotta be careful buying the forever ones because your invitations may be heavier than a usual stamp and you dont want to put 90 cents of stamps on there for something that would cost you 65 cents.

    Thanks for the tips ladies!

We are doing magnet save the dates (a friend of mine does them so all I have to pay for is postage, envelopes and the magnets themselves)

I'm gonna stick to only buying the forever stamps (shown in original post)

I went through my guest list for the STd's and only need 50 stamps($27.00) the rest I'm going to hand out with a total of 87 save the dates.
