Wedding Registry

So I want to hear from the brides and brides-to-be out there...did your fiance have much to do with the registry process? I know we need kitchen stuff and whatnot but he could care less about that stuff lol I don't want to choose everything and not give him any input but I'm curious as to what, if any, involvement other men have had in it. Mine would register at Bass Pro Shop and Home Depot if he could lol

My FS actually had a lot of imput. But I think he was that involved to keep me from scanning everything I saw. LOL

HAHA Bass Pro Shop! FS and I both contribute to the registry, him possibly more than me! He's a great cook, though, so I think he has preferences about what he uses in the kitchen. He also threw some totally unnecessary things onto the registry that I will likely remove once he forgets what he put on there.

Well, another plus to marrying another woman... we BOTH had lots of input into every aspect of this wedding. And since we both have the same tastes in appliances and home stuff, it wasn't hard at all.

And as far as what got put on the registries? Well, there's some totally unnecessary things on there as Turtle put it, but then again, we have our house already set up. We don't "NEED" anything else. It's all a matter of upgrading some of the stuff we already have. And even that... some of the stuff we have upgrades for weren't needed. The old stuff is still fairly new. So we put a few "wants" on there. I added some video games. We also added some camping supplies. We both lost a lot of that stuff in our last relationships, so we're replacing it as we can. Not really a necessity, but definitely in the "want" category. I figured a wedding registry was kind of like Christmas... Get stuff you need, but you also you ask for what you want, regardless of how much you need it..

My FS would DIE if we went to Harley Davidson for the registry. HA!

Alas...we went to Bed Bath and Beyond. I wanted to include him, so we went together. We need new kitchen stuff and some bedroom stuff like sheets, etc. So, I gave him rule over the scanner and we picked out stuff together. We did it over two seperate days....we didnt want to exhaust ourselves. So the kitchen side was done first which took about 1.5 hours and then did the bath/bed side which took about 45 minutes. I went into the registry later online and adjusted numbers, etc cause the scanner thing was not working right on either day. Since some of those items will probably be discontinued before our wedding in June, we will go online and see which were discontinued and replace with similar/newer stuff.....maybe do that in March before we send out the invivitations in April. WHEEE! What a fun ride, eh?

My FS had a lot of input as well. I was pleasantly surprised. I would decide to go look at toasters.. And I'd point out the ones I liked, and he'd decide on the ones he liked and we'd compromise. He even had input about the decorative items.. Especially bathroom stuff and towels! He didn't want anything TOO feminine for our bathroom, so he put his foot down about that lol And was really picky about the texture of the towels. He's the manliest man I know, he just wanted our house to be "OURS" and not just "MINE" Smiley smile

As a seasoned spouse (almost 7 years) and wedding registry veteran, I would actually recommend going to register at The Home Depot! You can get all kinds of great house stuff, but also your hubs can get some of the things he will want/ need to have around your house. I have had many friends marry over the last few years and we have always gotten them a gift card to Home Depot/Lowe's (even if they weren't registered) and I have heard many "that was the most useful gift we could have gotten...." Just my little two cents..... oh and to answer your question, mine was very involved. He ended up picking our China and half the kitchen gadgets- does he use them? No! but he had fun!!

    Congrats!!

Aw it's so nice to see that most of you worked together on your registry. For those that did it themselves, kudos to you too, it seems a bit overwhelming for me. I'm kinda weird about registering for things until we see our new house (he's in the Coast Guard and we don't know where we're getting moved to until January, then we move in June). But I'm sure there are things that don't nescessarily need to coordinate, ie. pots and pans, cooking stuff.

As for The Home Depot, Tiffany, you're absolutely right. I have to confess that although I pick on him, I love going in there and seeing all the possiblities. And I like the smell of fresh cut wood! Is that weird? Oh and we were actually passing a Home Depot on the freeway when we first said "I love you" so it does have special meaning Smiley smile

My FH made a huge stink about wanting to do the registries with me ... until it came time where I asked if he wanted to go to some of the stores and actually do it - then he didn't care. It ended up turning into a minor disagreement followed my me just doing them completely online out of frustration. I wish he had been involved more and got to actually have that in store experience but he has been involved with everything else so I can't complain too much lol.

If you want to include kitchen, bath, camping gear & tools and all that, why not register as amazon? You get a button for your browser that will let you register literally anywhere on the web. Getting my man to a store would have resembled pulling teeth. However online, he actually contributed a little. A little. Plus we didn't have to try and do it all at once, we could slowly add to it as we think of things.

That's a great idea too. I wish we could go to a store and do it but online is convenient too. We live in Key West and we're at least 2 hours from anything other than a KMart so its more practical for us to do it online. Unless for some reason we make the 200 mile trek to Miami.

I know we have plenty of time but my fiance and i are definitely working together for the registry...we're registering at myregistry.com so we can each pick different stores where we want to register and we can do it all online...i can't wait to actually start adding things instead of just browsing!

Most of the stuff selected was me, but I gave him the gun and he chose the most random things (a $10 pillow that he doesn't even need).

He scanned in 5 bags of reece's pieces when I wasn't looking. He liked it because we all ready knew what we wanted.

    Reeses pieces, yummy!!

aaahhhhhhh, i def asked his advice on the china which was a pain in the a$$. in the end we only got 1 set which we ended up returning. i now regret that because we could've slowly added to it but each set is 139$

when we were in B3, he def went all out in the kitchen section even though i'm the one that cooks. he knew what i'd prob want.

overall i say, whatever i wanted to put on there i'd ask his opinion.

Yep, he's been very involved...but that's been our overall approach to wedding planning. i think the registry process can be tedious for all couples at some point. but i think the online suggestion for you is a great one. another site you might want to check out is depositagift.com i actually don't think that home depot has a registry anymore (at least in our area), but you can register with them for money towards anything. plus if you're moving you wouldn't want to lug all that stuff with you. depositagift has been one of our best finds during the process -- really fun and easy for us both.
