Wedding Registry... I'm stuck

Olivia, on October 1, 2011 at 5:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

So what do you brides have on your registries? ALSO, I'm always looking for a good deal and HATE spending a lot of money. Do you guys think about the price of items when you're adding them to your registries? The Wine Cabinet I really really really want is $250 and I hate to put it on there... I put one on there that's $75 but what do you guys think?

Besides the typical stuff like, towels, kitchen appliances, and sheets... what else can you put on the registry? I have some wall decor and curtains but I hate to put everything on there that can decorate our entire house. lol

UGHH - is there a proper registry etiquette to follow? LOL

I don't see what's wrong with putting the $250 wine cabinet on your registry. A lot of places give you a discount on unpurchased registry items, so if no one buys it for you, you may be able to buy it for yourself after the wedding at a discounted rate. I would still, however, be sure to include other items at different price ranges ($25 and under, $26-50, $50-75, $75-100, $100+).

I'm with Andrea. Register for whatever you want. If people want to spend that much and buy it for you then they will. If they don't want to, they will buy something cheaper or give you cash in the amount they are comfortable giving. As long as you have items of different price ranges, it's fine. People aren't going to be offended to see wall decor or curtains either. It's still stuff for your house. Decorative stuff is just as acceptable as practical stuff.

I have a variety of stuff

And entire bathroom set (shower curtain, mats, towels: all sizes, and sink accessories)

My entire bedroom lol from candles, lamps, bedding, rug, curtains, and wall decor...

Living room (pillows, lamps, curtains, rug set, tables...)

HAHAH I have almost everything on the site. We're going through walmart so it's a little cheaper and more convenient for everyone...

Check this out!!! I want it for our bedroom. We have a register heater that's about 3.5' tall and a box cover over it and this would look GREAT above it. No one knows that our heaters are behind those box thingys so I'm thinking this is a great way to "represent" the heating unit for the bedroom...

I had a hard time finding things to register for as we already own a home. So I did have a lot of decor and some bigger items that cost more than some guests would prefer. However, some people will go in together to buy the bigger items so if you want it, put it. The worst that will happen is nobody will buy it for you.

I also put some fun things like board games and fishing poles Smiley smile

A wedding registry is a wish list -- it's a guildeline for your guests who want to give you a gift. So you should really choose stuff that you like, and not what you think is a good deal. Your guests will end up choosing what they want anyway.

I also think it would be a good idea to offer your guests an option other than Walmart. Somebody might actually want to give you something nice.

It's good to have things in a variety of price ranges, and things that you'll really use. If you love wine, register with a wine store!

Put what you really want on there, but if you do not mind returning items then register for the cheaper solutions and then return it for the bigger item. We are registering for pots individually with the intent to return them all to get a pot set.

Ask for what you REALLY want and don't worry about the price. There will be guests who will possibly get together and share the cost of an item.

Definitely register for what you want regardless of price! You never know how generous people will want to be or who will decide to combine on a gift. But make sure that you have things from all ends of the financial spectrum... I've got stuff as low as $20 going up to hundreds.

As for what to put on there, again I say go for what you really want, even if it's not traditional. We're using www.MyRegistry.com and you can add from any store so we've got everything from books to art supplies to new bedding. Think outside the box and have fun with it! Smiley smile

We used yourweddingpresents.com. On that site, you can put items like the wine cabinet under "contribution" gifts. So 2 people can each contribute $125 to your wine cabinet instead of one person spending $250.

We just started putting ours together - we have a pool so I put some pool stuff there like a Solar Shower and a beach towel hanger, a couple of nice rafts. We also are into wine and cigars so we put those on it and I am a big time gardener so tons of yard stuff and we really like to cook so there's some very high end cookware on too

This is my backyard so you can see why I have tons of gardening stuff on here :-)

There's nothing wrong with that, the guideline I follow for my registry is to add everything I want and when it comes to price I have more under $100 so people don't go out and find cheaper stuff that I won't use on their own.

I do about 10 items over $100, that include my cooking set, I think a blender, my vaccum and some other stuff, if someone wants to buy them great, if not I will get a discount to buy it on my own after the wedding just because it's on my registry.

That's one thing I never understood before, why some people had things way over $300-$500 but now I get it, they sometime put it there so they can get the discount.
