Wedding Registry for UK

khadeeja, on September 26, 2013 at 11:28 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hi guys!

My fiance lives in the UK and I will be moving right after the wedding. Apparently the UK doesn't have a registry system. What should I do?

We have registry systems, it's not just a very popularised thing. They are referred to as "gift lists" and a lot of highstreet chains have a dedicated site for theirs.

For example, googling the shop name of some major chains such as John Lewis (https://www.johnlewisgiftlist.com/) plus gift list should bring up their site. Your FH can also go in store to larger department stores and enquire about their gift lists, most have the option to compile and access it online by giving your guests a number and/or a password.

Some even allow you to search by the list holder's surname(s)

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and best of luck.

    Agree with Poppet

not really popular and we also dont really talk about them (having a gift list)

John Lewis, Debenhams, House of Frasers, Next. All those high street ones

    NotOnTheHighStreet also have one

We live in a country other than the USA, but almost all of the guests are American, and we're getting married in the USA, so I'm basically in the same situation as you.

We registered at Macys and BBB for small, light things that will be easy to pack, and a few people (mom, bridesmaids, and a cousin) are discreetly spreading the word that, should people choose to give us gifts, we would prefer either money (totally gauche, I know Smiley sad ) or things that are easy to pack, with absolutely no plug, as the plugs are different than in the USA.

Overall, I just want people to give a gift from the heart, but I knew that they would want some direction, given our unique circumstances.
