I'm an American, FH is Colombian. We need to marry in Colombia for his family to attend. I don't speak Spanish so we hired a bilingual wedding planner. She simply isn't doing her job and blames language/cultural differences.

1) She suggested a "priestess" officiant who believes in a "positive vortex" with Mother Earth. Not our style. We asked for more options, even relaxing our wish for someone who speaks English. Three months later, not a single officiant option from her.

2) I have a medical condition and cannot eat meat. All 3 caterers she sent don't have a single vegetarian or sea food entree. When I pointed this out she said "It's Colombia" and suggested I eat the single appetizer option. Yet, I eat well at local restaurants.

3) She promised to provide hotel options for our guests near our venue. Now she says that was "help" and not actually her job and flat out lied saying I waited too long to ask her despite earlier e-mail requests.

Do we fire her? Cancel our wedding?

Sorry @Katia I lost the "don't" before the "speak Spanish."

FH took awhile to see the problem but he's much more involved now. He simply has to do the bulk of communicating due to the language. But it's still tough for us to even locate vendors because our wedding is 8 hours from our home, Colombian businesses don't always have an online presence, and sometimes I think we just don't use the right search terms.

There's a few of us here on the forum that speak Spanish. If you need help googling wedding stuff in Spanish and/or drafting some emails for potential vendors, I don't mind helping you out.

Sadly, as you said yourself, it's not unusual for Latin American businesses to take their sweet time before getting back to you. You'd have a bit more luck if you call them. I know your FH is pretty busy - would your FMIL or any other relatives be willing to call a few businesses on your behalf, just to know if they're available, within your budget, and willing to do the rest of the communication through email?

If you don't find vendors online, try searching Facebook groups, or a website like this one but for Colombia, like https://www.matrimonio.com.co/ hopefully that one will also be of help. [just a FYI for the mods, that website is the Colombian branch of Bodas.net, which belongs to WW, so technically I'm not telling her to go to another website. Please don't flag me Smiley smile ]
