Wedding Party Joining in on Couples 1st dance

Rebecca , on October 2, 2016 at 7:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

Is that even a thing anymore. I haven't seen it in about 20 years but my mom keeps asking if I'm doing it and doesn't want to take no for an answer.

I think that's a totally personal choice. Our DJ asked if we wanted to invite anyone/ everyone to join in towards the end of our first dance. Having already chosen a fairly short song, we said no--those three minutes are ours.

I feel like it is so awkward! We had to do it for one of the weddings I was in and I hated every second of it!

It's not really a thing anymore. Do any of your BMs and GM even know each other? Or are any of them married to or in a relationship with someone who isn't also in the WP? Maybe try explaining how awkward it could be for some of your WP members and their SOs.

I think if its what you want then you can have your DJ open the dance floor, if not people will respect that its your intimate moment.

You are talking about the bridal party dance, right? Like not just any of your guests?

I was in one but they did a bridal party fun dance, no touching necessary and then invited others to join.

The last wedding i was in we did that. It was how they did the intros. Bride and groom still had their full song when a new song came on each pair was introduced and came onto the dance floor. It actually worked pretty well

I've been in one wedding where we had to do it and it was so awkward slow dancing with someone I didn't know. I don't think it's a thing anymore anyway.

Oh god, that's what a bridal party dance is? I saw it as an option on our DJ's planning form and had couldn't figure it out. No thank you.

We had to do it at the last wedding I was in. It had its pros and con's.

Cons- it was awkward for the people in the wedding party who's SO wasn't also in the wedding party.

Pro's- halfway through the dance, each person went to the other guests and brought someone out to the dance floor to slow dance. Everyone grabbed a friend they knew or SO. This was the start of all the dancing of the night. The dance floor ended up staying full and packed from that point to the rest of the night.

I'm going to have our dj open the dance floor to everyone after 30 seconds or so of us dancing. I don't want everyone staring at us for that long!

We did it. No one came up except for our parents then the second round of the MC calling everyone came up. But I think it's personal preference. I definitely did it in my cousin's wedding when I was a bridesmaid, but that was about 15 years ago now.

I think it's a personal choice... I went to a friends wedding earlier this year and everyone was invited to join the couple on the dance floor, and frankly, the entire crowd descended on the couple and prevented them from finishing the dance. FH and I agreed right then that the first dance is for us and us alone.

Not a fan of this idea. We danced to our song for about a minute and a half, and then the DJ invited all of our guests to join us on the dance floor.
