Has anyone not had a wedding party? No bridesmaid, no groomsman just us with family and friends around. We are an older couple planning a boat wedding with 50ish people. I just want simple, fun and easy. It is not a 1st marriage for either of us. My wedding coordinator is handling literally everything so I don't have to worry about any duties for a wedding party to provide. Has anyone done this that can give advice?

Honestly, if I could go back, I wouldn't have a wedding party.

One bridesmaid lived across the ocean, the other was... just generally absentee and looking back wasn't really there for me at all in any capacity (she even made me deal with finding her a tailor to hem her dress the day before the wedding because she hadn't bothered). They didn't go dress shopping with me, I didn't have a bachelorette party or a bridal shower, and our wedding was small (less than 20 guests) and brief (a total of three and a half hours). My husband's groomsmen were equally flaky, no bachelor party, and the day of, one of them didn't even show up. (Yes, really. "I forgot to request off work.") There was really no need for a bridal party.

We are in our late 50s, 2nd marriage and we are doing away with a wedding party as well. Plus how do you even choose without offending anyone? LOL

My mom was "the grooms person" for a second marriage boat ceremony. She was asked to help by being the person in charge of the safety and enjoyment of his daughter (10 at the time and her God Daughter) so that the Bride could get ready and so could his daughter. Daughter was involved in the ceremony for both Dad and Mimi (dad's wife) and my mom signed the marriage certificate as a witness. She knew both the bride and groom when they dated in high school, so she was a good middle ground when they got back together! The bride's brother was the other witness for the certificate.
